ESTABLISHED IN 1998, TUCSON WILDLIFE CENTER (TWC) CELEBRATED 23 YEARS OF SUCCESSFUL OPERATION IN 2021. THE CONTINUING COVID-19 SITUATION HAS IMPACTED STAFFING, AND FUNDRAISING. TWC DID NOT HAVE ITS ANNUAL FUNDRAISING BENEFIT IN 2021 AND THE EDUCATION PROGRAM WAS STILL NOT RESTARTED. TWC CONTINUED TO OFFER SERVICES TO TUCSON AND THE EIGHT RURAL COUNTIES OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA FREE OF CHARGE 24/7, 365 DAYS A YEAR WITHOUT INTERRUPTION THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.IN 2021, TWC PROVIDED EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARE TO 4,393 SICK, INJURED, AND ORPHANED WILDLIFE RESCUED BY TWC CARE STAFF, AND/OR BY THE PUBLIC WHO BROUGHT WILDLIFE TO TWC FOR CARE. COVID-19 CONTINUED TO CAUSE A REDUCTION IN VOLUNTEER NUMBERS, CHANGES IN STAFFING AND CANCELLATION OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM, INCLUDING MOST ON-SITE TOURS, NO PARTICIPATING AT FESTIVALS AND FAIRS, AS WELL AS SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS AT SCHOOLS, LIBRARIES, CHURCHES, NATIONAL PARKS, AND COMMUNITY SERVICE ORGANIZATION MEETINGS.TWC MAINTAINED COVID-19 PROTOCOLS THROUGHOUT 2021. WE ARE PROUD OF OUR ABILITY TO CONTINUE HELPING THE LARGE NUMBER OF WILDLIFE THAT COMES THROUGH OUR FACILITY.EMERGENCY PHONE LINE WAS AVAILABLE 24/7 AND VETERINARIANS WERE ON CALL 24/7. OUR WILDLIFE CARE SPECIALISTS AND WILDLIFE CARE ASSISTANTS, ALONG WITH ADMISSIONS STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS, WORKED TOGETHER DILIGENTLY TO PROVIDE THE WILD ANIMALS IN OUR CARE THE BEST TREATMENT AND A SUCCESSFUL RETURN TO THE WILD AFTER RESCUE AND REHABILITATION.
