TERESA MCCORMICK CENTER - OREGON WILDFIRE PROJECT: IN EARLY SEPTEMBER 2020, UNUSUALLY HIGH WINDS AND CONTINUED DRY WEATHER CAUSED THE RAPID EXPANSION OF MULTIPLE WILDFIRES IN OREGON. OVER 1,000,000 ACRES WERE BURNED, AND ABOUT 40,000 PEOPLE WERE EVACUATED, WITH ABOUT 500,000 PEOPLE IN EVACUATION WARNING AREAS. SOME CITIES IN OREGON WERE SUBSTANTIALLY DESTROYED, AND A NUMBER OF PEOPLE WERE KILLED AS A RESULT OF THE FIRES. IN SOME AREAS, MORE THAN 2,800 STRUCTURES WERE DESTROYED. WHEN THE FOUNDERS LEARNED OF THIS DESTRUCTION AND THE HUMANITARIAN NEEDS THAT AROSE BECAUSE OF THIS, THE FOUNDERS PARTNERED WITH THE TERESA MCCORMICK CENTER, AN ORGANIZATION RECOGNIZED BY THE IRS AS BEING DESCRIBED IN SECTION 501(C)(3) AND LOCATED IN MEDFORD, OREGON, TO RAISE MONEY AND PURCHASE NEEDED SUPPLIES. THROUGH THEIR EFFORTS, THE FOUNDERS RAISED AND COLLECTED $175,000 WORTH OF SUPPLIES AND DELIVERED THESE SUPPLIES TO RESIDENTS WHO HAD LOST THEIR HOMES IN THE FIRES.
