AN EXPERIMENTAL CABARET GROUP DEVOTED TO EXPLOTING ALL THE POSSIBILITES OF INTIMATE, HOMEMADE THEATER THROUGH BEAUTIFUL SONGS, TRICKED-OUT COSTUME CHANGES, DRAG, AND VIRTUOSTIC PROP CONSTRUCTION.

LATE NIGHT SNACKS - THE BEARDED LADIES CREATE TEMPORARY PLATFORMS FOR ARTIST FROM THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY OF DRAG, QUEER PERFORMANCE, OPERA, CABARET, AND NIGHTLIFE TO PERFORM. THIS SERIES OF PROGRAMS OCCURS AS A VIRTUAL FESTIVAL PERFORMANCE IN 2020, AND WILL BE A MOBILE FESTIVAL OF PERFORMANCE ON A TRUCK IN SPRING 2021. THE BEARDED LADIES WORK WITH PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS AND ARTIST TO CURATE OVER 70 ARTISTS/GROUPS EACH SEPTEMBER, SERVING OVER 3,000 PEOPLE ANNUALLY AND MIXING INTERNATIONAL AND LOCAL CABARET, OPERA, DRAG, AND PERFORMANCE ARTISTS. ACCESSIBILITY IS A KEY VALUE FOR THIS PROGRAM AND ALL BEARDED LADIES PROGRAMS. TICKETS/ADMISSION TO LATE NIGHT SNACKS ALWAYS INCLUDES A PAY-WHAT-YOU-DECIDE AND/OR FREE OPTION DESIGNED TO COMBAT LACK OF ACCESSIBILITY TO THE ARTS IN PHILADELPHIA.
NEW WORK DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS SERVE LGBTQ ARTISTS AND CABARET ARTISTS, WHO ARE USING THEIR ARTISTIC VOICE AS A MEANS TO DISRUPT, SUBVERT, QUESTION, AND QUEER TRADITIONAL FORMS. IN RECENT YEARS, WE HAVE PROVIDED STIPENDS TO 10 ARTISTS ANNUALLY FOR INDIVIDUAL ARTISTIC EXPERIMENTATION. THE BEARDED LADIES SUPPORTS FOUR CABARET RESIDENCES DESIGNED TO BIRTH NEW WORK ANNUALLY. THE RESIDENCY PROGRAM WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE FALL AND WINTER OF 2022. IN ADDITION, THE BEARDED LADIES HAVE SUPPORTED LARGER SCALE PROJECTS CALLED STRANDS. RESIDENCIES AND STRANDS GO TO SUPPORTING ARTISTS WHO ARE NOT STAFF MEMBERS OR RESIDENT ARTISTS OF THE BEARDED LADIES CABARET. THE GOAL OF THIS AREA OF PROGRAMMING IS TO FOSTER NEW IDEAS IN AN OFTEN UNDER RESOURCED COMMUNITY OF ART-MAKERS IN PHILADELPHIA.
CABA-PLAYS - THIS PROGRAM IS THE CORPORATIONS IS THE MOST LONG STANDING ORIGINAL WORK INITIATIVE. EVERY YEAR THE BEARDED LADIES INVEST IN CREATING AND/OR REVIVING AT LEAST ONE CABARET-PLAYS IN PHILADELPHIA. THESE PIECES ARE SCRIPTED, EVENING-LENGHT MUSICALS THAT USE ORIGINAL AND FOUND MUSIC TO WRESTLE WITH A PRESSING QUESTION OR SOCIO-POLITICAL CONCERN. THESE SHOWS ARE DONE IN COLLABORATION WITH PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS AND ARE CREATED COLLABORATIVELY WITH LOCAL COMPOSERS, WRITERS AND PERFORMERS. THE BEARDED LADIES HAVE MADE OVER 14 ORIGINAL EVENING-LENGTH PIECES.
