CROSS COMMUNITY EXISTS TO ADVANCE EQUITY AND RACIAL RECONCILIATION IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY MARYLAND THROUGH EDUCATION ADVOCACY MEETING FOOD INSECURITY NEEDS CULTIVATING THE PRACTICE OF HOSPITALITY AND BY HELPING THE FAITH COMMUNITY TO BE MORE EFFECTIVE IN THIS WORK.

COMMUNITY SURVEY: FROM JUNE-AUGUST 2021 WE CONDUCTED A COMMUNITY SURVEY IN THE GMV GAITHERSBURG AND MONTGOMERY VILLAGE WHERE WE SURVEYED 1,300 RESIDENTS. THE RESULTS OF THIS SURVEY OFFER A WINDOW INTO THE STRUGGLES THE HOPES AND THE DREAMS OF LOW-INCOME IMMIGRANT FAMILIES LIVING IN THE GMV AREA OF MONTGOMERY COUNTY. PLEASE CLICK THE PHOTO FOR A SUMMARY OF THE RESULTS OF OUR SURVEY. VITA EITC COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT INITIATIVE: THE EQUITY CENTER OFFERS FREE TAX PREPARATION HELP FOR LOW-INCOME EARNERS THROUGH THE VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE VITA EFFORT.
WE HAVE CREATED A COOPERATIVE SYSTEM OF FOOD VENDORS PUBLIC AGENCIES AND NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS THAT FEEDS 400 TO 500 HOUSEHOLDS EVERY WEEK FOR AN ESTIMATED TOTAL OF OVER 5,000 INDIVIDUALS. SINCE MARCH OF 2020 CROSS COMMUNITY AND ITS PARTNERS HAVE DISTRIBUTED MORE THAN 100,000 BAGS AND BOXES OF FOOD ADDING UP TO MORE THAN 3MIL POUNDS OF FRESH PRODUCE MEAT BREAD AND DAIRY. WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO THIS SAFELY AND CONSISTENTLY AT MULTIPLE DISTRIBUTION SITES UNLEASHING THE POWER OF HUNDREDS OF VOLUNTEERS TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY OF NEED.
