GRANTS AND DISTRIBUTIONS ARE MADE TO NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS AND CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS WITH OBJECTIVES INCLUDING THE PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS, DEMOCRACY, AND THE RULE OF LAW IN THE POST-SOVIET AREA, PRIMARILY FOCUSING ON KAZAKHSTAN, AMONG OTHER COUNTRIES. THESE GROUPS ACHIEVE THESE OBJECTIVES THROUGH: ORGANIZATION OF OBSERVATION MISSIONS, MONITORING INDIVIDUAL HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION CASES, MONITORING VOTING BEHAVIOR DURING ELECTIONS, PROTECTING THE RIGHTS OF POLITICAL PRISONERS AND REFUGEES, AND ADVOCATING FOR INTERNATIONAL LEGISLATION BETTER SERVING HUMAN RIGHTS.
