THE ORGANIZATION'S PURPOSE IS TO HELP ALL GAIN CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING AND AN APPRECIATION OF NATURE THROUGH EDUCATIONAL TRAVEL. FORMED TO SAVE HARPERS FERRY HOSTEL & CAMPGROUND WHEN THE PREVIOUS OWNER CLOSED IT AND PUT THE FACILITY UP FOR SALE DUE TO THE PANDEMIC.

CROSS TRAIL HOSTEL PREVIOUSLY KNOWN, WHEN OWNED BY HIUSA, AS HARPERS FERRY HOSTEL AND CAMPGROUND REOPENED UNDER PAH OWNERSHIP JUNE 2021 TO FULFILL THE ORGANIZATIONAL MISSION OF HELPING INDIVIDUALS GAIN CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING AND AN APPRECIATION OF NATURE THROUGH EDUCATIONAL TRAVEL. PAH'S MODEL INCLUDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROUPS SCOUTS, ETC AND INDIVIDUALS TO VOLUNTEER IN THIS MISSION CURRENTLY WITH THE DEVELOPMENT AND UPKEEP OF THE HOSTEL AND ITS PROGRAMS AND IN THE COMMUNITY IN WHICH IT RESIDES. THE PAH BOARD VOTED IN MARCH 2021 TO OPEN. APRIL AND MAY WERE SPENT DEVELOPING A BUSINESS MODEL AND PLAN, THEN CLEANING AND PREPARING THE PROPERTY WHICH HAD BEEN CLOSED DUE TO COVID19. FIVE 5 VOLUNTEERS PREPARED THE PROPERTY FOR A JUNE 1ST OPENING TO BE PROCEEDED, WHILE WORK WAS ONGOING, BY A SOFT, MID MAY, OPENING. DURING THE TWO WEEK SOFT OPENING HIKERS, BICYCLISTS AND A SCHOOL GROUP STAYING AT THE HOSTEL VOLUNTEERED VARIOUS SERVICES CONTRIBUTING TO ITS OPENING. OTHER OFFERS WERE MADE AT THAT TIME THAT THE HOSTEL WAS NOT PREPARED TO ACCEPT. WE WERE PLEASED THAT THE HOSTEL IMMEDIATELY GENERATED ENOUGH INCOME THAT THE TEMPORARY MANAGER WE HIRED COULD CONTINUE TO THE CLOSE OF THE 2021 SEASON, JUNE 1 OCTOBER 31 DURING WHICH IT SAW BETWEEN 100 TO 200 VOLUNTEERS. SEVEN HILLS HOSTEL PREVIOUSLY KNOWN, WHEN OWNED BY HIUSA, AS RICHMOND HOSTEL WAS PURCHASED BY PAH IN 2021. IN 2022, VOLUNTEERS PROVIDED MAINTENANCE TO BUILDINGS AND THE SURROUNDING GROUNDS THROUGH LANDSCAPING, PAINTING AND TRASH REMOVAL EFFORS. ADDITIONALLY, VOLUNTEERS HUNG DONATED ARTWORK ASSISTED WITH RECORD KEEPING AND GENERAL OFFICE DUTIES TO PREPARE THE HOSTEL FOR GUESTS.
