TRIANGLE RESEARCH LIBRARIES NETWORK (TRLN) IS A COLLABORATIVE ORGANIZATION OF DUKE UNIVERSITY, NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL UNIVERSITY, NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY, AND THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL, THE PURPOSE OF WHICH IS TO MARSHAL THE FINANCIAL, HUMAN, AND INFORMATION RESOURCES OF THEIR RESEARCH LIBRARIES THROUGH COOPERATIVE EFFORTS IN ORDER TO CREATE A RICH AND UNPARALLELED KNOWLEDGE ENVIRONMENT THAT FURTHERS THE UNIVERSITIES' TEACHING, RESEARCH, LEARNING, AND SERVICE MISSIONS.

IMPLEMENTATION AND MANAGEMENT OF A SHARED LIBRARY CATALOG AND OF RESOURCE-SHARING SOFTWARE SYSTEMS AND ACTIVITIES. THE SHARED LIBRARY CATALOG ALLOWS ANY USER AT THE FOUR TRLN MEMBER LIBRARIES TO SEARCH FOR AND REQUEST MATERIALS HELD AT ALL FOUR TRLN MEMBER INSTITUTIONS.
TRLN ANNUAL MEETING. ON JULY 29 AND JULY 30, 2021, TRLN HELD A TWO-DAY VIRTUAL ANNUAL MEETING WITH 336 REGISTRANTS. THERE WERE TWO KEYNOTE SPEAKERS, A UNIVERSITY LIBRARIANS PANEL, A STUDENT PANEL, AND MANY PRESENTATIONS FOCUSED ON THE THEME OF "CARING FOR OUR COMMUNITIES, OUR SPACES, OURSELVES." TRLN ALSO OFFERED THREE WORKSHOPS IN THE WEEK PRIOR TO THE ANNUAL MEETING, INCLUDING PRIVACY IN THE LIBRARY: UNDERSTANDING THE ISSUES AND WORKING ON PRACTICAL STRATEGIES FOR CHANGE FROM THE LIBRARY FREEDOM PROJECT; INFORMATION ACCESS FOR PEOPLE INCARCERATED IN NORTH CAROLINA: A TEACH-IN FOR ACADEMIC LIBRARIANS FROM BILL HOLLINGSWORTH; AND THE RACIAL EQUITY INSTITUTE'S GROUNDWATER. THERE WERE PRESENTATIONS ON BOTH DAYS WHERE TRLN COLLEAGUES SHARED ABOUT THE WORK THEY HAD DONE OVER THE PAST YEAR. TRLN IDEA PROJECT FUNDING. TRLN SEEKS TO SUPPORT OUR MEMBER INSTITUTIONS' WORK IN INCLUSION, DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND ACCESSIBILITY WITH PROJECT FUNDING. STAFF MEMBERS AT ANY TRLN LIBRARY CAN APPLY FOR FUNDING FOR A VARIETY OF PROJECTS THAT FURTHER THEIR LIBRARY'S AND TRLN'S GOALS TO ESTABLISH OR ADVANCE INCLUSION, DIVERSITY, EQUITY, OR ACCESSIBILITY EFFORTS. THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE HAS APPROVED A TOTAL OF $100,000 OF FUNDING, TO BE DISTRIBUTED ACROSS TWO YEARS (TWO FUNDING CYCLES PER YEAR). THE PROJECT "UNC BLACK FACULTY VANGUARD" PROPOSED BY SARAH CARRIER - NORTH CAROLINA RESEARCH AND INSTRUCTION LIBRARIAN FOR UNC-CHAPEL HILL'S WILSON SPECIAL COLLECTIONS LIBRARY WAS APPROVED FOR THIS FUNDING IN MARCH 2022 WITH WORK CONCLUDING IN SEPTEMBER 2022. THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO LOCATE AND DIGITIZE PRIMARY DOCUMENTS/ARTIFACTS ABOUT THE FIRST BLACK FACULTY MEMBERS AT UNC-CHAPEL HILL FROM 1966 - 1973. THESE MATERIALS, PRIMARILY HOUSED AT WILSON SPECIAL COLLECTIONS LIBRARY, WILL BE ORGANIZED TO TELL THE STORIES OF THE FIRST BLACK FACULTY MEMBERS AND SPEAK TO ONE ESSENTIAL PART OF THE OVERALL STORY OF DESEGREGATION AT UNC-CHAPEL HILL. THE PROJECT WILL CULMINATE IN AN ONLINE DIGITAL EXHIBIT BUILT IN OMEKA FEATURING EACH OF THE FIRST BLACK FACULTY MEMBERS, PLUS A TIMELINE OF THE ERA.
