THE DIRECTED ENERGY PROFESSIONAL SOCIETY WAS FOUNDED TO FOSTER RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF DIRECTED ENERGY TECHNOLOGY FOR NATIONAL DEFENSE AND CIVIL APPLICATIONS THROUGH COMMUNICATION AND EDUCATION. THE GOAL OF THE ORGANIZATION IS TO BE RECOGNIZED AS THE PREMIER ORGANIZATION FOR EXCHANGING INFORMATION ABOUT AND ADVOCATING RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND APPLICATION OF DIRECTED ENERGY.

DURING MUCH OF 2020, THE ORGANIZATION WAS NOT ABLE TO CONDUCT MANY OF IT'S NORMAL ACTIVITIES DUE TO COVID 19 RESTRICTIONS IN THE UNITED STATES AND OTHER COUNTRIES. EARLY IN 2020, PRIOR TO COVID RESTRICTIONS, IT WAS ABLE TO CONDUCT ITS ANNUAL MEETING. THROUGH THIS MEETING IT WAS ABLE TO PERFORM ITS PRIMARY PURPOSE TO PROMOTE RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION OF DIRECTED ENERGY.


CONDUCTED CONFERENCES AND WORKSHOPS ADDRESSING LASER TECHNOLOGY, MODELING AND SIMULATION, AND TESTING AND EVALUATION. MOST WERE CONDUCTED REMOTELY THROUGH TELECONFERENCING OR ZOOM MEETINGS.


CONDUCTED A SYSTEMS SYMPOSIUM FOCUSED ON SYSTEMS ASPECTS OF DIRECTED ENERGY. THE SYMPOSIUM CONSISTED OF SEVERAL SESSIONS WHERE PARTICIPANTS WERE ENCOURAGED TO DISCUSS MATTERS OUTSIDE NARROW TECHNICAL LIMITS.
