Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
FISCAL SPONSORSHIPS - WHEN THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC BEGAN, THE NAVAJO NATION WAS ONE OF THE HARDEST HIT PLACES IN SPRING OF 2020. RUPEF QUICKLY ACTED TO BECOME A FISCAL SPONSOR TO TWO MUTUAL AID ORGANIZATIONS, BLUFF AREA MUTUAL AID AND THE NAVAJO AND HOPI FAMILIES COVID-19 RELIEF FUND. RUPEF ACCEPTED TAX-DEDUCTIBLE DONATIONS FOR THESE TWO ENTITIES TO SPEND ON PURCHASING FOOD, PPE, AND OTHER ESSENTIAL SUPPLIES FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS UNABLE TO LEAVE HOME.
CIVIC ENGAGEMENT - RUPEF RAN A FULLY NON-PARTISAN VOTER REGISTRATION PROGRAM ON THE UTAH PORTION OF THE NAVAJO NATION. RUPEF STAFF USED PLUS CODE ADDRESSES TO REGISTER VOTERS INTO THE CORRECT VOTING PRECINCTS, WORKED WITH LOCAL ELECTIONS OFFICIALS TO EXPAND THE USE OF PLUS CODES TO REGISTER VOTERS EFFECTIVELY, AND COORDINATED WITH OFFICIALS IN THE NAVAJO NATION GOVERNMENT TO ALSO REGISTER ELIGIBLE VOTERS FOR NAVAJO NATION ELECTIONS. RUPEF ALSO HELD NONPARTISAN CIVIC ENGAGEMENT-FOCUSED ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS FILM SCREENINGS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE UTAH FILM CENTER AND A SERIES OF CIVIC ENGAGEMENT TRAININGS, WHERE STAFF REGISTERED VOTERS AND TALKED WITH VOTERS ABOUT NONPARTISAN CIVIC ENGAGEMENT.
ADDRESSING PROGRAM - RUPEF IS RUNNING A COMPREHENSIVE, NONPARTISAN ADDRESSING PROGRAM ON THE NAVAJO NATION IN SAN JUAN COUNTY, UTAH, WHERE MOST RESIDENTS DO NOT HAVE TRADITIONAL PHYSICAL ADDRESSES. THIS CREATES BARRIERS TO VOTING, ACCESS TO TIMELY MEDICAL CARE, AND ACCESS TO BASIC SERVICES, SUCH AS AT-HOME MAIL DELIVERY AND UTILITIES. IN 2021, RUPEF IDENTIFIED AND CONTINUED THE PROCESS OF ADDRESSING THE 2,900 INHABITED AND ADDRESSABLE STRUCTURES USING PLUS CODES, AN OPEN-SOURCE TECHNOLOGY CREATED BY GOOGLE EMPLOYEES.
