THE MISSION OF BIG APPLE LEADERSHIP ACADEMY FOR THE ARTS INC. IS TO MAKE A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF NEW YORK CITY YOUTH BY PROVIDING MUSICAL VISUAL AND ENRICHMENT EXPERIENCES ASSISTING THEM IN ACHIEVING THEIR POTENTIAL AS THEY DEVELOP CONFIDENCE COOPERATION LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY AND HIGH STANDARDS OF EXCELLENCE AND CHARACTER.

THE BALAA SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM IS AN EXTENSION OF OUR BALAA AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM. DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR PARTICIPANTS ARE GIVEN ACADEMIC SUPPORT AFTER SCHOOL AND ARE THEN IMMERSED IN MUSIC EDUCATION AND DANCE INSTRUCTION. DURING THE SUMMER ACADEMIC SUPPORT INCLUDES COMPLETING THEIR SCHOOL-ISSUED SUMMER HOMEWORK PACKETS AS WELL AS CREATIVE WRITING WHERE STUDENTS HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO CONTRIBUTE TO OUR SUMMER STORIES AUTHORSHIP PROJECT. THERE IS NO FEE TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM. OUR SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM IS OFFERED AT A VERY AFFORDABLE RATE UNTIL WE ARE FUNDED AND ABLE TO PROVIDE IT FOR FREE AND INCLUDES SEVERAL DISCOUNT OPPORTUNITIES SUCH AS SIBLING DISCOUNTS PARENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES REFERRAL BONUSES AND HARDSHIP SCHOLARSHIPS.
BALAA BEAUTIES OFFERS ACTIVITIES THAT ENGAGE GIRLS AGES 5 TO 18 IN LIFE SKILLS LEARNING AND EMPOWERMENT. LIFE SKILLS CLASSES INCLUDE CPR AND FIRST AID COOKING SEWING BAKING QUILTING CROSS-STITCHING AND LETTER WRITING. ARTS CLASSES INCLUDE POTTERY CRAFTS AND DIY PROJECTS SUCH AS HOMEMADE SOAPS AND BATH SALTS AND RECYCLABLE SHOPPING BAGS MADE FROM OLD T-SHIRTS. EMPOWERMENT ACTIVITIES INCLUDE OUR CHAT N' CHEW EMPOWERMENT TALKS OUR ANNUAL TEA PARTY AND PAINT IN PEARLS WHERE GIRLS LEARN ABOUT AND PAINT PICTURES OF PROMINENT WOMEN IN THE BIPOC COMMUNITY WHOSE SOCIETAL CONTRIBUTIONS HAVE LED TO SIGNIFICANT CHANGES FOR WOMEN IN OUR HISTORY. THERE IS NO FEE TO PARTICIPATE IN BALAA BEAUTIES PROGRAMMING.
BALAA BRAWNS IS OUR MALE MENTORSHIP PROGRAM WHERE WE WORK WITH A MENTOR COLLECTIVE OF APPROXIMATELY 25 MEN IN THE BIPOC COMMUNITY WHO OFFER THEIR TOOLBOX OF EXPERTISE TO OUR MENTEES. THE BRAWNS ALSO PARTICIPATE IN CHAT-N-CHEW EMPOWERMENT TALKS AND VENTURE OFF WITH MENTORS IN HISTORICAL WALKING TOURS MEETUPS AND GOAL SETTING ACTIVITIES. THERE IS NO FEE TO PARTICIPATE IN BALAA BRAWNS PROGRAMMING.
