OPPORTUNITY YOUTH NETWORK MANAGING LEAD CHARTER SCHOOL (LEAD) IN 2020-2021, NOYN MANAGED THE EDUCATIONAL AND OPERATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR LEAD CHARTER SCHOOL -- NEW JERSEYS FIRST ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL. LEAD'S KEY DESIGN ELEMENTS SUPPORT THE UNIQUE ACADEMIC AND NONACADEMIC NEEDS OF STUDENTS WHO HAVE DISENGAGED FROM TRADITIONAL SCHOOLING. LEADS INNOVATIVE MODEL RE-ENGAGES YOUNG PEOPLE VIA ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN RIGOROUS AND RELEVANT CONTENT AND STANDARDS-DRIVEN, COMPETENCY-BASED INSTRUCTION ALIGNED WITH EMERGING MARKET DEMANDS. IN PROGRAM YEAR 2021, LEAD SERVED 303 STUDENTS AND SUPPORTED MORE THAN 60 STUDENTS COMPLETION TO EARN THEIR NJ HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA. ADDITIONALLY, STUDENTS AND STAFF HAVE SLOWLY BEGAN TO RETURN FROM THE PANDEMIC.
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF LABOR EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING ADMINISTRATION (YOUTHBUILD) AGENCY'S CORE PROGRAM. SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE TO OPPORTUNITY YOUTH AGED 16-24. PROGRAMMATIC OBJECTIVES INCLUDE: RE-ENGAGING STUDENTS WHO HAVE DROPPED OUT OF SCHOOL AND/OR WHO'S LEVEL OF DISENGAGEMENT MAKE THEM HIGHLY AT-RISK FOR ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL FAILURE, PROVIDING WORKFORCE SKILLS AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING, AND PRIORITIZING COMMUNITY SERVICE AS A MEANS TO ACHIEVE COMMUNITY REVITALIZATION. FOR THE PROGRAM YEAR 2020-2021, THE AGENCY HAS PARTICIPATED IN THE SUBSTANTIAL REHABILITATION OF TWO (2) UNITS OF LOW-INCOME HOUSING UNITS. STUDENTS AND STAFF HAVE SLOWLY BEGAN TO RETURN FROM THE PANDEMIC.
CONSTRUCTION SERVICES - THE CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM IS AN EXTENSION OF THE EDUCATIONAL AND JOB TRAINING PROGRAM WHEREIN THE NOYN PARTICIPANTS ARE ENGAGED IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF LOW-INCOME HOUSING AND OBTAIN HANDS ON TRAINING AND INSTRUCTION. SOME OF THE CONSTRUCTION SERVICES PROVIDED GENERATE REVENUE FOR THE AGENCY THAT IS REINVESTED IN ITS PROGRAMMING. IN THE 2021 PROGRAM YEAR YOUNG PEOPLE WORKING ON MORE THAN TWO ACTIVE CONSTRUCTION SITES SUPPORTING THE COMPLETION OF ONE. DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM PROGRESS HAS BEEN LIMITED.
