THE CALIFORNIA WATER DATA CONSORTIUM IS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT SUPPORTS STATE AGENCY IMPLEMENTATION OF THE OPEN AND TRANSPARENT WATER DATA ACT TO ENSURE THAT STATE AND LOCAL AGENCIES, TRIBES, NONGOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS, RESEARCHERS, AND THE PUBLIC CAN READILY ACCESS AND USE HIGH-QUALITY DATA NECESSARY TO SUSTAINABLY MANAGE WATER FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL CALIFORNIANS.

THE CALIFORNIA WATER DATA CONSORTIUM IS ADVANCING THREE PROJECTS, INCLUDING PROJECTS ON GROUNDWATER ACCOUNTING AND DATA REPORTING; URBAN WATER DATA REPORTING; AND LIDAR DATA ACQUISITION. THE CONSORTIUM RECEIVED A U.S. BUREAU OF RECLAMATION WATERSMART APPLIED SCIENCE GRANT TO SUPPORT THE GROUNDWATER ACCOUNTING AND DATA REPORTING WORK. THIS WORK IS BEING ADVANCED WITH GUIDANCE FROM TWO ADVISORY COMMITTEES THAT MEET QUARTERLY AND FOUR PILOT PARTNERS WHO PROVIDE GUIDE AND TEST NEW GROUNDWATER ACCOUNTING PLATFORM FUNCTIONALITIES.THIS YEAR THE CONSORTIUM HOSTED SEVERAL PROGRAM-SPECIFIC WORKSHOPS INCLUDING AN URBAN WATER DATA REPORTING WORKSHOP AND A LIDAR WORKSHOP DESIGNED TO STIMULATE COLLABORATION BETWEEN A VARIETY OF STAKEHOLDERS INTERESTED IN DEVELOPING AND/OR USING LIDAR DATA OR DERIVED PRODUCTS. THE CONSORTIUM CONTINUED TO ENGAGE THE WATER DATA COMMUNITY IN OUR WORK AND PROMOTE MORE EQUITABLE WATER SOLUTIONS. THESE PROGRAMS INCLUDE I) A FREE, VIRTUAL DATA FOR LUNCH SERIES PROVIDING A VENUE FOR THE CONSORTIUMS BOARD AND STEERING COMMITTEE MEMBERS, WORKING GROUP CO-CHAIRS, AND THE PUBLIC TO LEARN ABOUT NEW AND INNOVATIVE AND II) A RACIAL EQUITY WORKING GROUP THAT PROVIDES GUIDANCE ON RACIAL EQUITY IN WATER DATA IN CALIFORNIA. THIS YEAR THE RACIAL EQUITY WORKING GROUP 1) SUPPORTED A STUDENT-LED EXAMINATION OF AB1755 AND DATA ACCESS, THROUGH AN EQUITY LENS, 2) HELD OUTREACH AND LISTENING SESSIONS TO BETTER UNDERSTAND WATER DATA NEEDS IN UNDERREPRESENTED COMMUNITIES, AND 3) HAD DISCUSSIONS OF CURRENT AND POTENTIAL FUTURE CONSORTIUM PROJECTS AND HOW TO BETTER INCORPORATE EQUITY INTO THOSE PROJECTS.
