CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT FOR THE YOUTH OF GREATER LONG BEACH TO DEVELOP SELF-CONFIDENCE ANDLEADERSHIP SKILLS WHILE LEARNING, PLAYING, AND PRESERVING JAZZ THROUGH PROFESSIONAL MUSIC TRAINING.

STUDIO SESSION: 7-10 DIFFERENT JAZZ BAND ENSEMBLES WITH 10-12 MUSICIANS REHEARSE FOR ONE HOUR EVERY WEEK IN 4 (10 WEEK) SESSIONS. MUSIC IS ARRANGED AT THE LEVEL OF EACH MUSICIAN. 2 DIRECTORS, 1-2 STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS ARE PRESENT AT EACH REHEARSAL. EACH SESSION ALSO INCLUDES PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL JAZZ BANDS. DURING THE COVID CRISIS CLASSES JAZZ ANGEL DEVELOPED AND IMPLEMENTED ONLINE PROGRAMS AND PERFORMANCES. NO STAFF WERE PRESENT AT REHEARSALS. STAFF WORKED ON DEVELOPING THE ONLINE PROGRAM AND TO MAKE A SAFE PLACE FOR OCCASIONAL WORK AT OUR STUDIO. ADDITIONALLY, JAZZ ANGEL OFFERED ONLINE PRIVATE LESSONS AS A WAY TO ENGAGE STUDENTS WHO WERE/ARE LEARNING FROM HOME.
LONG BEACH USD: IN FEBRUARY JAZZ ANGEL BEGAN THE PROCESS TO TEACH 3 CLASSES PER WEEK IN UNDERSERVED AREAS. DURING THE COVID CRISIS, JAZZ ANGELS DEVELOPED WEB PAGES WITH MUSIC AND BACKING TRACKS WHICH WERE OFFERED TO SEVEN SCHOOLS IN UNDERSERVED AREAS. THE DISTRICT APPROVED A VIRTUAL AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR THE REMAINING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.
PARAMOUNT USD: 5 DURING SCHOOL JAZZ BAND CLASSES A WEEK ARE TAUGHT PER WEEK AT 3 DIFFERENT MIDDLE SCHOOOLS. 25-30 MUSICIANS ARE IN EACH CLASS. MUSIC IS ARRANGED AT THE LEVEL OF EACH MUSICIAN. 2 JAZZ ANGEL STAFF TEACH THE CLASS. EACH SESSION ALSO INCLUDES PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES FOR EACH CLASS. DURING THE COVID CRISIS PUSD PAUSED PROGRAMMING AND DID NOT RENEW OUR CONTRACT. JAZZ ANGEL RAISED FUNDS TO RESUME PROGRAMMIMG IN APRIL 2021.
