TO PRESERVE AND EXHIBIT HISTORIC MATERIALS OF RAILWAY TRANSPORTATION, TO COLLECT DATA ON THE HISTORY OF TRANSPORTATION AND TO ISSUE PUBLICATIONS RELATING TO THIS SUBJECT, AND TO ENCOURAGE RAIL TRANSPORTATION.

DURING THE CALENDAR YEAR 2022, THE MUSEUM WAS ABLE TO REPLACE THE COMPRESSOR IN THE HISTORIC F-UNIT LOCOMOTIVE AND ACQUIRE DIFFICULT TO OBTAIN PARTS FOR THE GP-40 LOCOMOTIVE. THE FEDERAL RAILROAD ADMINISTRATION REQUIRES PERIODIC BRAKE INSPECTIONS ON THE RAIL CARS KNOWN AS COT&S, THE MUSEUM WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE A MANDATORY COT&S ON THE SILVER TUREEN DINING CAR. WORK COMMENCED ON THE PHYSICAL MUSEUM AT KINGSLAND STATION LOCATED AT 440 S. LEE ST. THE GOAL OF OPENING THE MUSEUM BY OCTOBER 1ST APPEARS ACHIEVABLE. THE MUSEUM WILL HIGHLIGHT THE IMPORTANT HISTORY OF THE RAIL LINES IN SOUTHERN GEORGIA AND NORTHERN FLORIDA. THE ST. MARYS LINE, ON WHICH THE TRAIN OPERATES, IS THE OLDEST, PRIVATELY OWNED SHORTLINE RAILROAD IN THE U.S. THE MUSEUM WAS ABLE TO HOST SEVERAL CHARTER TRAINS CONSISTING OF LOCAL PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS FOR THE PURPOSE OF EDUCATING THE STUDENTS ON RAIL HISTORY. THESE CHARTER PROGRAMS ARE AN IMPORTANT OUTREACH OF THE MUSEUM AND WILL INCREASE IN FREQUENCY OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS. THE MUSEUM BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETS MONTHLY TO DETERMINE WHICH PROJECTS IT INTENDS TO FUND THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
