INDEPENDENT PRODUCTION COMPANY INITIATIVE: THE HOLLYWOOD COMMISSION HAS PARTNERED WITH THE COALITION OF IMMOKALEE WORKERS (CIW), AN ORGANIZATION HERALDED AS "UNIQUE IN THE COUNTRY" FOR PREVENTING SEXUAL VIOLENCE (PBS FRONTLINE, "RAPE IN THE FIELDS") IN AGRICULTURE AND OTHER INDUSTRIES. THE ORGANIZATIONS WILL WORK TOGETHER TO DEVELOP A THIRD-PARTY PILOT TO PROTECT WORKERS AT INDEPENDENT PRODUCTION COMPANIES AND SUPPORT THOSE COMPANIES' EFFORTS TO PREVENT WORKPLACE MISCONDUCT. INDEPENDENT PRODUCTION COMPANIES FACE A NUMBER OF UNIQUE CHALLENGES. THEY ARE OFTEN SMALL IN SIZE AND LACK ADEQUATE RESOURCES AND INTERNAL EXPERTISE TO PUT SYSTEMS IN PLACE THAT PREVENT WORKPLACE MISCONDUCT. PARTICIPANTS IN THE INITIATIVE WILL AGREE TO ABIDE BY A PRODUCTION CODE OF CONDUCT, MONITOR BEHAVIOR, REPORT, AND TRACK. THE PROGRAM WILL ALSO FACILITATE EDUCATION AND TRAININGS.
EDUCATION & OUTREACH: EDUCATION AND OUTREACH CURRENTLY INCLUDES TWO TRAININGS: BYSTANDER INTERVENTION TRAINING AND INCLUSIVE SETS AND HARASSMENT FREE WORKPLACES. THE LIVE TRAININGS ALLOW PARTICIPANTS TO LEARN STRATEGIES AND TECHNIQUES TO CREATE A MORE INCLUSIVE, HARASSMENT FREE WORKPLACE.
TRAININGS, WORKSHOPS, AND ROUNDTABLES: THIS PROGRAM INCLUDED A SERIES OF 8 PANELS THAT INCLUDED OVER 650 ATTENDEES. TOPICS INCLUDED POWER, BULLYING AND TOXIC WORKPLACES IN HOLLYWOOD, CREATING CULTURES OF RESPECT, FIRESIDE CHATS, BUILDING ACCOUNTABILITY FOR DEI INITIATIVES, DIVERSE TEAMS, INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENTS, AND TRAIN THE TRAINER COMPLIANCE AND WORKPLACE MISCONDUCT.
RESEARCH & ANALYSIS: THE HOLLYWOOD COMMISSION BENCHMARKS AND DEFINES THE MOST URGENT ISSUES OF HARASSMENT AND DISCRIMINATION FACING HOLLYWOOD WORKERS AND DEVELOP RESPONSIVE RESOURCES TO ADDRESS AND MITIGATE THEM. IN NOVEMBER 2019, THE COMMISSION LAUNCHED THE LARGEST, FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND CLIMATE SURVEY. WITH VALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS FROM 9,630 ENTERTAINMENT WORKERS, THE SURVEY LED TO 5 PUBLISHED REPORTS CONCERNING ACCOUNTABILITY, BIAS, SEXUAL HARASSMENT, AND SEXUAL ASSAULT, BULLYING, AND THE PATH FORWARD.
