HIKI OLA IS IN THE PROCESS OF REFORESTING THE LAND. IN 2022, HIKI OLA PLANTED 301 TREES ON THE LAND. HIKI OLA WILL CONTINUE PLANTING TREES IN 2023. HIKI OLA ALSO WORKED WITH LOCAL SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY GROUPS TO TEACH CHILDREN ON THE LAND ABOUT NATIVE HAWAIIAN PLANTS, THEIR PROPAGATION AND REGENERATION, HIGHLIGHTING TRADTIONAL HAWAIIAN PRACTICES.

CONTINUED CONSTRUCTION OF OUTDOOR LEARNING CENTER AT KA'EAIKAHELELANI HALAU PROPERTY.


BEGAN PLANNING AROUND THE DEVELOPMENT OF A COMMUNITY-BASED AGROFOREST TO HELP COMMUNITY MEMBERS UNDERSTAND THE VALUE AND BENEFITS OF AGROFORESTRY. THIS INCLUDES DESIGNING A VARIETY OF POSSIBLE AGROFORESTRY AREAS WITH VARIOUS MEDICINAL AND EDIBLE NATIVE AND CANOE PLANTS. HIKI OLA ALSO WORKED WITH STUDENTS, TOTALING ALMOST 400 VISITS TO KEALAKEKUA MOUNTAIN RESERVE, PROVIDING A PLACE AND AINA-BASED EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE TO PRIMARILY ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED AND UNDERSERVED POPULATIONS.


NATIVE TREE RESTORATION.


SECURED THE USDA'S RACIAL EQUITY AND JUSTICE GRANT AND PROVIDED WORKSHOPS TO COMMUNITY MEMBERS, TARGETING THE NATIVE HAWAIIAN AND PACIFIC ISLANDER COMMUNITIES. HELPED EDUCATE THESE COMMUNITIES ABOUT FARM BILL PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT THEIR EFFORTS OF TAKING CARE OF THE LAND.
