MONGABAY JOURNALISM PROGRAMS:IN 2023, MONGABAY PUBLISHED NEARLY 5,000 STORIES IN SIX LANGUAGES, AUTHORED BY ABOUT 900 INDIVIDUALS. THIS REPORTING ATTRACTED AN AVERAGE OF JUST OVER SEVEN MILLION VISITORS A MONTH TO OUR WEBSITES. THE BREAKDOWN OF READERSHIP BY NEWS SITE WAS AS FOLLOWS: GLOBAL ENGLISH (34%), SPANISH (33%), INDONESIA (18%), INDIA-ENGLISH (10%), BRASIL (2%), INDIA-HINDI (2%), AND FRENCH (1%).WE ACHIEVED THE HIGHEST REACH, AS MEASURED BY USAGE RELATIVE TO A COUNTRY OR REGION'S NUMBER OF INTERNET USERS, IN LATIN AMERICA, LED BY PERU, BOLIVIA, ECUADOR, PANAMA, AND COLOMBIA. OUTSIDE LATIN AMERICA, SINGAPORE HAD THE HIGHEST PER CAPITA REACH. WE PUBLISHED THE MOST STORIES ABOUT ASIA LAST YEAR, WITH INDONESIA TOPPING THE LIST.VIDEO PRODUCTION INCREASED BY 26% IN 2023 RELATIVE TO 2022 IN TERMS OF VOLUME. VIDEO VIEWERSHIP ACROSS THE MAIN CHANNELS WE TRACK AMOUNTED TO 212 MILLION VIEWS, MARKING A 51% INCREASE.CRITICAL ECOSYSTEMS EXPERIENCING ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION AND ACUTE THREATS REMAINED AT THE HEART OF OUR COVERAGE IN 2023. WHILE WE REMAINED COMMITTED TO OUR LONG-STANDING REPORTAGE ON TOPICS SUCH AS TROPICAL FORESTS, WILDLIFE, LAND RIGHTS, EXTRACTIVE INDUSTRIES, INFRASTRUCTURE, OCEANS, NATURE-BASED CLIMATE SOLUTIONS, AND THE ROLE OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES AND LOCAL COMMUNITIES IN CONSERVATION, WE EXPANDED OUR COVERAGE OF POLLUTION, TOXICS, AND NOVEL COMPOUNDS AS WELL AS THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY.OUR TEAM CONTINUED TO GROW, WITH OUR GLOBAL HEADCOUNT EXPANDING BY 27%. NOTABLY, WE MADE THE DECISION TO CREATE MONGABAY-AFRICA, A NEW BUREAU THAT WILL EXPAND OUR COVERAGE ACROSS THE CONTINENT IN FRENCH AND ENGLISH. TO LEAD THIS INITIATIVE, WE HIRED DAVID AKANA. WE EXPECT SUBSTANTIAL GROWTH FOR THE AFRICA TEAM IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF THE NEXT YEAR.MONGABAY CONTINUED TO RECEIVE GROWING RECOGNITION FOR ITS ACHIEVEMENTS AND REPORTING, INCLUDING THE BIOPHILIA AWARD AND NUMEROUS ACCOLADES FOR INDIVIDUAL STAFF MEMBERS. THE WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM FEATURED MONGABAY IN A VIDEO HIGHLIGHTING OUR WORK.WE PUBLISHED OUR 2030 STRATEGIC PLAN, WHICH PROVIDES A ROADMAP FOR HOW WE INTEND TO EXPAND THE ORGANIZATION'S IMPACT IN THE COMING YEARS.
