DOMESTIC RESPONSES - GSD RESPONDED TO THE MONTANA RICHARD SPRING FIRE AND CONDUCTED NEED ASSESSMENTS AND PROVIDED RELIEF THROUGH THE DISTRIBUTION OF A GENERATOR TO THE RED CROSS SHELTER. AS PART OF ITS LOCAL COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EFFORTS, GSD SUPPLIED SHOES TO UNDERSERVED SCHOOLS, INCREASING THEIR RESILIENCE. GSD WORKED TO BUILD SOL RELIEF'S PREPAREDNESS BY SUPPORTING THEM WITH A FUNDRAISING VIDEO THAT WILL AID THEIR DONATION EFFORTS. IT ALSO SUPPORTED CLARK COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE BY RECOVERING TWO SUNKEN BOATS FROM THE COLUMBIA RIVER. GSD CONDUCTED ITS 2021 MOBILIZATION EXERCISE (MOBEX) IN THE TOWN OF BOULDER CREEK, CA. THE EXERCISE SIMULATED HURRICANE BRENDA WHICH LED TO SUBSTANTIAL FLOODING. THE EXERCISE PROVIDED THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRAIN THE BOULDER CREEK FIRE DEPARTMENT IN RESPONSE ACTIVITIES AND SUPPORT THE TOWN'S RECOVERY THROUGH THE SERVICES PROVIDED AS PART OF THE TRAINING ARRANGEMENTS.

COVID-19 RESPONSE - GSD WORKED WITH HAYWARD FIRE DEPARTMENT, CA TO STAFF A VACCINATION SITE AND DELIVER CORONAVIRUS VACCINES. INITIATED AS A PILOT PROJECT, THE CLINIC VACCINATION SITE WAS INTENDED TO MAKE THE COVID-19 VACCINE MORE ACCESSIBLE TO SOUTH HAYWARD AND THE GREATER HAYWARD COMMUNITYWITH SPECIAL ATTENTION TO COMMUNITIES OF COLOR THAT WERE HIT HARDEST BY CORONAVIRUS AND WERE RECEIVING VACCINATIONS AT DISPROPORTIONATELY SLOWER RATES. GSD WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR NEARLY 10,000 VACCINES OVER A PERIOD OF NEARLY FOUR MONTHS (JANUARY - APRIL 2021).
M/V DAWN - GSD ENGAGED IN A CONTRACT TO PURCHASE AND REFIT A DISASTER RESPONSE VESSEL (DRV), M/V DAWN. M/V DAWN WILL BE DEDICATED TO SUPPORTING COMMUNITIES THROUGH THE CARIBBEAN AND LATIN AMERICA AND WILL BE GSD'S PLATFORM FOR DISASTER PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE INITIATIVES, WITH CAPABILITIES DESIGNED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE REGION. DAWN'S PRIMARY MISSION IS DISASTER RESPONSE AND WILL PROVIDE A FASTER RESPONSE TIME, INCREASED CAPACITY, AND REDUCED BURDEN ON IMPACTED COMMUNITIES. DAWN'S SECONDARY MISSION IS COMMUNITY RESILIENCY AND EDUCATION VIA TRAINING ENGAGEMENTS. IN 2021, GSD'S ACTIVITIES RELATED TO M/V DAWN INCLUDED INVESTMENT IN PURCHASE, REFIT, AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PLATFORM.
