WORK TO CHANGE COMMUNITIES IN ANNAPOLIS MARYLAND AND ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY FOR THE BETTER SO CITIZENS' VOICES ARE REPRESENTED AND SOLUTIONS ARE PRESENTED TO DECISION MAKERS.

ACT WORKED TO BUILD A STRONGER ORGANIZATION IN 2021. AFTER GEORGE FLOYD'S DEATH, MEMBERS OF ACT'S CAUCASIAN CONGREGATIONS WERE TRAINED ON ANTI-RACISM. ARK AND DOVE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH SHARED ITS CONGREGATION'S WORK ON ANTI-RACISM. ACT'S LEAD ORGANIZER LED WEEKLY TRAININGS ON CORE CONCEPTS OF ORGANIZING. INDIVIDUAL ORGANIZATIONS WITHIN ACT ALSO CONDUCTED TRAINING OF THEIR MEMBERS IN KEY CONCEPTS OF ORGANIZING. ACT HIRED A SHORT-TERM ORGANIZER TO ORGANIZE A RESIDENTS' COUNCIL TO EMPOWER RESIDENTS TO EFFECTIVELY ADVOCATE FOR NEEDED AND PLANNED RENOVATIONS TO THEIR COMMUNITY AND APARTMENTS.


ACT BROUGHT THE HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL TURN AROUND MOVEMENT TO ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY. ACT LEADERS MET WITH TURN AROUND TUESDAY LEADERS AND WITH THE PARTICIPANTS WHO WERE RETURNING FROM INCARCERATION OR OUTPATIENT TREATMENT OR UNEMPLOYMENT. ACT ALSO MET WITH A MAJOR EMPLOYER WHO HIRED TURN AROUND TUESDAY PARTICIPANTS AND ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY OFFICIALS. ACT PUT TOGETHER A PARTNERSHIP AMONG LUMINIS HEALTH, ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, AND THE MARYLAND REENTRY RESOURCE CENTER. THE ANNE ARUNDEL TURN AROUND MOVEMENT WILL BE HOUSED AT ASBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH IN ANNAPOLIS AND WILL MOVE THOSE RETURNING TO THE COMMUNITY FROM INCARCERATION OR DRUG TREATMENT INTO LONG-TERM, GOOD-PAYING JOBS WITH LUMINIS HEALTH AND OTHER EMPLOYERS.


ACT MEMBERS CONTINUED TO WORK WITH COMMUNITY MEMBERS ON UNIVERSAL ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE AND RELIABLE INTERNET SERVICE AND SOUGHT COUNTY FUNDS. THE COUNTY'S LIBRARY SYSTEM WILL USE COUNTY FUNDS AND TAKE THE LEAD ON PROVIDING TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE FROM THEIR MOBILE UNITS THROUGHOUT ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY.
