IN 2023, THE RIVER FUND MAINE (TRFM) CONTINUED TO FOCUS ON THREE KEY AREAS: EDUCATION, RECREATION, AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH, WORKING WITH LOCAL GROUPS TO ACHIEVE SHARED GOALS. HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE: EDUCATION: A COLLEGE AND TRADE SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS TO FOSTER FUTURE COMMUNITY LEADERS. - FOUR COLLEGE SCHOLARS EACH RECEIVING 20K ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR TOTAL OF FOUR YEARS. - ONE TRADES SCHOLAR RECEIVING 10K ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR A TOTAL OF TWO YEARS CAREER WORKSHOP FOR GRADES 9-12 TO LEARN ABOUT DIFFERENT CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN TRADES, EDUCATION, HEALTH, BUSINESS, FINANCIAL AND OTHER PROFESSIONAL SECTORS. WORK IN CONJUNCTION WITH LOCAL HIGH SCHOOLS. PROFESSIONALS, BUSINESS OWNERS AND TRADES PEOPLE ARE BROUGHT IN TO DISCUSS THEIR EXPERIENCES IN THEIR FIELDS. CAREER MENTORSHIP: CONNECTING STUDENTS TO CAREER OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH INTERNSHIPS AND MENTORSHIPS. RECREATION: - PROVIDED PROGRAMING FOR HUMAN POWERED OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES FOR AREA YOUTH - PROVIDED SEASON PASSES TO APPROXIMATELY 300 DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS IN THE SURROUNDING SCHOOL DISTRICTS - COLLABORATED AND SUPPORTED OTHER LOCAL AFTER SCHOOL AND RECREATIONAL GROUPS TO EXPAND RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES TO AREA YOUTH COMMUNITY PROJECTS: FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR SHORT-TERM PROJECTS THAT MEET LOCAL NEEDS AND PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE JOB SKILLS. SUCH ENDEAVORS INCLUDE: - FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR MAHOOSUC LAND TRUST'S ANNUAL MONARCH FESTIVAL - BETHEL HISTORICAL SOCIETY SUMMER PROGRAMMING - AIDED IN THE DISTRIBUTION OF BOTTLED WATER TO THE COMMUNITY WHEN THE DECEMBER FLOODS CLOSED DOWN THE WATER TREATMENT AND SANITATION FACILITY - FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO LOCAL FOOD PANTRY COLLABORATIVE PROGRAMS ARE PRIORITIZED, WITH EDUCATION AS THE FLAGSHIP, FOLLOWED BY RECREATION EXPANSION
