SUPPORT REFUGEE & IMMIGRANT FARMERS' ACCESS TO FARMLAND: OUTREACH TO FARMLAND OWNERS, EVALUATION OF AVAILABLE FARMLAND, ACQUIRING KEY FARMLAND AND MAKING IT AVAILABLE TO REFUGEE & IMMIGRANT FARMERS, ASSISTING WITH FINDING, EVALUATING, AND NEGOTIATING LEASES ON FARMLAND.
FARMERS' MARKETS AND AGGREGATE MARKETING: ALL FARMERS RUNS TWO FARMERS MARKETS IN LOW-INCOME/LOW-ACCESS NEIGHBORHOODS IN SPRINGFIELD AND WEST SPRINGFIELD WHERE MANY FARMERS LIVE. OVER 95% OF SALES AT THESE MARKETS ARE THROUGH SNAP, HIP, AND WIC & SENIOR FARMERS' MARKET COUPONS. OUR VENDORS ARE DIVERSE FARMERS LIVING AND/OR FARMING IN THE GREATER SPRINGFIELD AREA, WHO SPEAK A COMBINED FOUR LANGUAGES AND BRING A DIVERSITY OF CULTURAL PRODUCE TO THE NEIGHBORHOODS WE SERVE.
TRAINING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE: TRAINING REFUGEE AND IMMIGRANT FARMERS TO ADAPT THEIR TRADITIONAL FARMING TECHNIQUES TO A NEW ENGLAND CLIMATE AND NAVIGATE U.S. BUSINESS AND MARKETING SYSTEMS. IN 2021, ALL FARMERS LAUNCHED THE PEER TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM TO TRAIN FARMERS FROM A LOCAL REFUGEE AND IMMIGRANT FARMING COMMUNITIES IN COMPREHENSIVE FARM, BUSINESS, AND TEACHING SKILLS AND SUPPORT THEIR TRAINING OTHER COMMUNITY MEMBERS DIRECTLY ON THEIR FARMS AND IN THEIR NATIVE LANGUAGES.
AWARENESS AND ADVOCACY: SHARING INFORMATION AT EVENTS AND CONFERENCES ABOUT THE RELEVANCE OF REFUGEE AND IMMIGRANT FARMERS TO THE LOCAL FOOD SYSTEM AND THEIR PARTICULAR NEEDS.
