RONDO CENTER OF DIVERSE EXPRESSION (RCODE), ALONG WITH THE RONDO COMMEMORATIVE PLAZA (RCP), HAS THE MISSION TO CONTINUE THE EFFORTS TO REKINDLE THE SPIRIT OF RONDO AND THE PRESERVATION OF THOSE VALUES THAT SUSTAINED RONDO THROUGH THE DEVASTATION OF ITS COMMUNITY.

1. DUE TO A VARIETY OF FACTORS, - THE MOST PROMINENT BEING LINGERING COVID-19 CONCERNS, THE ONLY REMEMBERING RONDO EVENT WAS SEPTEMBER'S ANNUAL ENGRAVED BRICK CEREMONY. SALES OF THE BRICK WERE OFF BY 70% COMPARED TO PRIOR YEARS. IT IS HOPED THAT COVID CONCERNS HAVE PEAKED AND WE WILL BE ABLE TO SCHEDULE MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO "REMEMBER RONDO". 2. PER AN AGREEMENT WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA'S DIGITAL LIBRARY, RCODE DELIVERED OVER 1,000 ORIGINAL ITEMS AND OTHER MATERIALS FOR INCLUSION AND ACCESS TO USERS OF THE MINNESOTA'S DIGITAL LIBRARY. RCODE RECEIVED, PROCESSED, AND ADDED TO OUR COLLECTION OVER SEVENTY TITLES, INCLUDING THE COMPLETE COLLECTION OF RAMSEY COUNTY'S AND THE MINNESOTA HISTORY CENTER'S JOURNAL ISSUES WHOSE CRITERIA FOR RELEVANT MATERIAL REGARDING RONDO HAS BEEN MET. INCLUDED IN 2022 ACQUISITIONS WERE: TWO BOOKS WRITTEN BY DAUGHTER OF RONDO AND A NATIONAL CNN HOST AND DAUGHTER OF RONDO, AND THE FIRST TWO BOOKS WRITTEN SPECIFICALLY FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS. 3. THE 2022 AWARDS WERE PRESENTED AT RCODE'S ANNUAL JUNETEENTH CEREMONY. THE RECIPIENTS WERE A RETIRING CHIEF OF THE ST. PAUL POLICE, A RETIRING RAMSEY COUNTY COMMISSIONER, AN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF A LONG-TERM SOCIAL AND COMMUNITY CENTER, TWO AUTHORS OF BOOKS WRITTEN FOR CHILDREN, AND AN AWARD WINNING, AFRICAN AMERICAN COSMETICS COMPANY LOCATED IN THE RONDO NEIGHBORHOOD. 4. THE RCC IS FLOURISHING WITH THE ADDITION OF A SECURED WATERING SOURCE. IN ADDITION TO THE SUPPORT OF THE ST. PAUL GARDEN CLUB, THE RCC WAS RECOGNIZED BY THE SUMMIT AVENUE PRESERVATION FUND FOR THE "CREATION OF UNIQUE COMMUNITY ASSETS." CORPORATE AND NEIGHBORHOOD VOLUNTEERS ENGAGE IN PLANTING, WEEDING, AND WATERING OF THE GARDENS AND PLANS ARE UNDERWAY TO OPEN THE SOUTH GARDEN FOR EVENTS.
