THE PHIPPS CENTER FOR THE ARTS, PROPELLED BY OUR COMMUNITY-BASED ARTS COUNCIL, SERVES AS A WELCOMING AND OPEN HOME FOR THE ST. CROIX RIVER VALLEY REGION AND BEYOND, EMPOWERING AND CULTIVATING LIFELONG ARTISTIC EXPRESSION, PARTICIPATION, AND APPRECIATION.

EXHIBITIONS AND PRODUCTION COSTS - IN 2021 WE STAGED 89 PERFORMANCES, WHICH DREW 7,517 AUDIENCE MEMBERS. WE ALSO FILMED PERFORMANCES THAT WERE VIEWABLE ON YOUTUBE AND AIRED ON LOCAL PUBLIC ACCESS TELEVISION. PERFORMANCES INCLUDED THEATER, CHILDREN'S THEATER, MUSIC, AND DANCE. ADDITIONALLY, PROMOTION OF CULTURAL ACTIVITIES WITHIN THE LOCAL AREA BY PROVIDING A PLACE FOR PERFORMING ARTS TO BE HELD AS WELL AS SUPPORTING LOCAL COMMUNITY ART INITIATIVES.
CULTURAL PUBLIC EDUCATION - WE OFFERED INDIVIDUAL MUSIC LESSONS AND 123 CLASSES IN ART, DANCE, YOGA, TAI CHI, AND ACTING, WITH 1,035 STUDENTS ENROLLED. WE DISPLAYED ART IN OUR GALLERIES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, AS WELL AS AT CROIXDALE SENIOR HOUSING IN BAYPORT, MN AND WOODLAND HILL SENIOR HOUSING IN HUDSON, WI THROUGH THE ENRICHING ARTS PROGRAM. IN THE SPRING WE HELD OUR ANNUAL EXHIBITION OF ART BY AREA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND AWARDED THE MARYLU BROWN SCHOLARSHIP TO A GRADUATING SENIOR WHO INTENDED TO MAJOR IN ART THE FOLLOWING FALL.
