SOUTHSIDE HEALTH EDUCATION FOUNDATION (SHEF) PROVIDES FINANCIAL EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE TO RESIDENTS OF SOUTHSIDE VIRGINIA WHO HAVE THE DESIRE AND AMBITION TO BECOME HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS BUT WHO LACK SUFFICIENT FINANCIAL RESOURCES. SHEF ALSO SERVES AS A RESOURCE FOR INFORMATION THAT SUPPORTS HEALTH CARE OPPORTUNITIES IN OUR COMMUNITY.

SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED TO 61 RECIPIENTS. SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS WERE A RESULT OF DONATIONS FROM THE LETTIE PATE WHITEHEAD FOUNDATION,WHOSE FUNDS WERE DESIGNATED TO BE USED TO PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS TO CHRISTIAN WOMEN WHO RESIDE IN ONE OF THE SPECIFIED STATES OF AL, FL, GA, LA, MS, NC, SC, TN OR VA,PUBLIC SUPPORT DIRECTLY AND FROM PRIOR AND CURRENT FUNDS DESIGNATED FOR SCHOLARSHIPS. SCHOLARSHIPS WERE ALSO FUNDED BY THE LYONS-LIPCHAK FUND AND SOUTHSIDE HEALTH EDUCATION FOUNDATION. THE SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED TO INDIVIDUALS PERSUING A DEGREE IN THE FIELD OF NURSING.
