IN 2021, THE AMERICAN VICARIOUS DEVELOPED AND INSTALLED NEGATIVE LIBERTY/POSITIVE LIBERTY, A KARAOKE-BASED PERFORMANCE INSTALLATION INSPIRED BY THE EVENTS OF JANUARY 6, 2021. NEGATIVE LIBERTY/POSITIVE LIBERTY ASKS A SINGLE VIEWER, IN AN 8-MINUTE PERFORMANCE, TO LEND THEIR VOICE TO AN ARTISTIC DISTILLATION OF ISAIAH BERLINS 1958 LECTURE, TWO CONCEPTS OF LIBERTY. IN THIS LECTURE BERLIN ARGUES THAT WHEN CONCEPTS OF LIBERTY ARE USED RHETORICALLY TO CONTROL AND REPRESS INDIVIDUALS IN THE NAME OF LIBERTY ITSELF - IT WILL INEVITABLY LEAD TO VIOLENT CONFLICT.
