IN 2021, DOWN HOME FURNISHED 27 HOMES, IMPACTING 83 LIVES OF INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES WHO WERE EMERGING FROM HOMELESSNESS INTO HOUSING IN THE FARGO-MOORHEAD AREA. OF THE DOWN HOME CLIENTS SERVED, 78% OF DH CLIENTS MARKED "DOMESTIC VIOLENCE" AS A PAST TRAUMA/CATALYST FOR HOMELESSNESS, 41% MARKED "SUBSTANCE ABUSE" IN THE HOME AS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR. 11% OF CLIENTS HAD LESS THAN A HIGH SCHOOL DEGREE, 45% HAD A GED OR HS DIPLOMA, 26% HAD SOME COLLEGE, 7% HAD AN ASSOCIATE DEGREE AND 11% HAD A BACHELORS DEGREE. 40% OF CLIENTS IDENTIFIED AS WHITE; 34 % IDENTIFIED AS BLACK OR AFRICAN AMERICAN; 23% IDENTIFIED AS NATIVE AMERICAN; AND 3% IDENTIFIED AS ASIAN. 81% OF OUR FAMILIES REPORTED THEY WOULD GO FOR AN EXTENDED TIME WITHOUT MATTRESSES TO SLEEP ON IN ORDER TO PAY FOR RENT AND FOOD, 44% REPORTED THEY WOULD ALSO GO WITHOUT A DINING TABLE AND CHAIRS AND 48% STATED THAT IT WOULD HAVE TAKEN A YEAR OR MORE TO FULLY FURNISH THEIR HOMES ON THEIR OWN. OF THE 27 REFERRALS, 37% CAME FROM YWCA CASS CLAY, 11% CAME FROM CHURCHES UNITED FOR THE HOMELESS, AND THE OTHER 52% CAME FROM NUMEROUS PARTNERING AGENCIES IN OUR COMMUNITY. THROUGH A SELF-REPORT SURVEY, 100% OF THE CLIENTS SERVED REPORTED STRONGLY AGREE OR AGREE THAT DOWN HOME PROVIDED THEIR FAMILY WITH SECURITY (NECESSARY FURNISHINGS), COMFORT (BLANKETS, PILLOWS, ETC.) AND RELIEF FROM FINANCIAL STRESSORS OF FURNISHING A HOME. ADDITIONALLY, 100% REPORTED STRONGLY AGREE OR AGREE THAT DOWN HOME HAS EMPOWERED THEM TO WORK HARD TO PROVIDE STABILITY FOR THEIR FAMILY AND MAKE FURTHER CONNECTIONS IN THE COMMUNITY BY GENERATING AND COMPLETING A REQUIRED PAY IT FORWARD PLAN. IN NOVEMBER, EVERYONE SERVED IN THE CURRENT YEAR RECEIVED CHRISTMAS PACKAGE DELIVERED TO THEIR DOOR BY A TEAM OF DOWN HOME VOLUNTEERS. SINCE DECEMBER 23, 2017, DOWN HOME HAS TRANSFORMED 94 EMPTY SPACES INTO COMFORTABLE, ENGAGING, AND EMPOWERING HOMES FOR 329 MEN, WOMEN, AND CHILDREN IN THE FARGO-MOORHEAD COMMUNITY. WITH DOWN HOME'S HELP, LESS THAN 5% RETURN TO HOMELESSNESS. COMPARED TO THE LOCAL AVERAGE OF 27% (STATE OF HOMELESSNESSIN FARGO-MOORHEAD METRO AREA 2021 REPORT) AND THE NATIONAL AVERAGE OF 50% (HUD.GOV). DOWN HOME'S VISION OF A COMMUNITY WHERE EVERYONE LIVES IN A SUPPORTED, STABLE, AND NURTURING HOME IS BECOMING A REALITY.
