OUR ROAD TO INDEPENDENCE GRANTS HELP REFUGEES WHO HAVE EXHAUSTED THE SUPPORT OF OTHER GROUPS. WE PROVIDE GRANTS TO REFUGEE FAMILIES FOR RENT, FOOD, UTILITIES, MEDICAL BILLS, HOUSEHOLD ESSENTIALS, BABY SUPPLIES, JOB TRAINING, COMPUTERS, DRIVING LESSONS, AND PHONE AND OTHER EXPENSES TO HELP THEM BECOME INDIEPENDENT.
WE WELCOME AND SUPPORT NEWLY ARRIVED REFUGEE FAMILIES THAT COME TO THE US VIA HIAS, CATHOLIC CHARITIES, ETC. WE PROVIDE ASSISTANCE WITH RENT, FOOD, UTILITIES, EDUCATION, CLOTHING, TRANSPORTATION, LOOKING FOR EMPLOYMENT DURING THEIR FIRST 12 MONTHS (OR LONGER) AS THEY ADJUST TO THE U.S. AND BECOME INDEPENDENT. IN 2021, WE HELPED RESETTLE 20 FAMILIES (MORE THAN 50 INDIVIDUALS).
IN RESPONSE TO THE COVID PANDEMIC, WE BEGAN A PROGRAM OF MASK MAKING UNDER WHICH WE PAID SEVERAL REFUGEES TO MAKE MASKS. THESE MASKS WERE THEN DONATED TO HOSPITALS, NURSING HOMES, SCHOOLS, ETC. IN 2021, WE PAID FIVE WOMEN TO MAKE ROUGHLY 5,000 MASKS.
