IN FY21 BROOKLYN DEFENDER SERVICES (BDS) PROVIDED COMPREHENSIVE LEGAL REPRESENTATION TO 21,082 LOW-INCOME BROOKLYN RESIDENTS WHO WERE ARRESTED, 3,392 PARENTS IN CHILD REMOVAL PROCEEDINGS, 1,108 CLIENTS IN DETAINED IMMIGRATION REMOVAL PROCEEDINGS AND 5,563 CLIENTS FACING BARRIERS TO CIVIL JUSTICE. BDS EMPLOYS A STAFF OF HIGHLY DEDICATED ATTORNEYS, SOCIAL WORKERS, INVESTIGATORS, PARALEGALS AND ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF TO PROVIDE MULTIDISCIPLINARY CLIENT REPRESENTATION TO PEOPLE FACING THE DIRE CONSEQUENCES OF IMPRISONMENT, LOSS OF THEIR CHILDREN, DEPORTATION, EVICTION AND HOUSING ISSUES, EDUCATIONAL AND EMPLOYMENT RIGHTS AND OTHER LEGAL ISSUES.
