ND SENIOR CAREER DEVELOPMENT IS WORKING WITH AMERICORPS SENIORS PROMOTING THE FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM IN WESTERN NORTH DAKOTA. THIS PROGRAM ENGAGES PEOPLE 55 AND OLDER FROM LOCAL COMMUNITIES TO VOLUNTEER IN AN EDUCATIONAL SETTING AND WORK ONE-ON-ONE WITH CHILDREN WHO NEED HELP.

THE SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICE EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM (SCSEP) IS A TRAINING TOWARDS EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM FOR PEOPLE 55 AND OLDER WHO ARE UNEMPLOYED AND HAVE AN INCOME LESS THAN 125% OF POVERTY AS SET BY FEDERAL INCOME GUIDELINES. THE SCSEP PROGRAM PROVIDES PAID TRAINING TO THE PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS WHILE THEY LEARN A NEW SKILL OR UPGRADE THEIR EXISTING SKILLS AT A LOCAL NONPROFIT AGENCY. THE SCSEP PROGRAM BENEFITS THE PARTICIPANTS AND PROVIDES ESSENTIAL ASSISTANCE TO COMMUNITY AGENCIES WITH A READY AND WILLING WORKFORCE. THE SUCCESS OF OUR SENIOR WORKERS THROUGH SCSEP IS ND SENIOR CAREER DEVELOPMENT'S PRIMARY GOAL. THE SECONDARY GOAL IS ENHANCING THE LOCAL COMMUNITY AGENCIES BY PROVIDING A QUALITY AND MOTIVATED WORKFORCE. THE SCSEP CONTRACT MUST BE ZEROED OUT AT THE END OF THE FISCAL YEAR. ANY MONEY UNUSED IS RETURNED TO THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR. CONTRACT ENDED 6/30/21.
THE FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM (FGP) IS A PROGRAM CREATED TO HELP LOW INCOME OR CHILDREN WHO NEED A LITTLE HELP IN AN EDUCATIONAL SETTING. THE FGP IS A PROGRAM WHERE QUALIFIED PEOPLE 55 AND OLDER WORK ONE-ON-ONE WITH THE CHILDREN ASSISTING THEM WITH READING, WRITING, AND BASIC MATH. THE FOSTER GRANDPARENTS ASSIST THE TEACHER WITH THE CHILDREN TO KEEP THE WHOLE CLASS AT THE SAME LEVEL. THIS ASSISTANCE ENABLES THE TEACHER AND THE CLASS AS A WHOLE TO CONTINUE WITH THEIR EDUCATIONAL GOALS AND LEAVES NO STUDENT BEHIND. THE FGP CONTRACT MUST BE ZEROED OUT AT THE END OF THE FISCAL YEAR. ANY MONEY UNUSED IS RETURNED TO AMERICORPS.
