HEALING HISTORICAL TRAUMA WITH SUPPORT FROM MEDICA FOUNDATION, MARDAG FAMILY FOUNDATION AND BARR WEB ENGINEERING, NIIBI CENTER IS CREATING A WHITE EARTH SPECIFIC APPROACH TO LEARNING ABOUT AND ADDRESSING OUR UNIQUE HISTORICAL TRAUMA, BUILDING CAPACITY TO UNDERSTAND, RECOGNIZE AND RESPOND. HEALING HISTORICAL TRAUMA AND TRAUMAS ONGOING IMPACT IS KEY TO RETAINING AND BUILDING OUR ABILITY TO PASS DOWN CULTURAL KNOWLEDGE AND LIVE IN TRADITIONAL WAYS.
INSTITUTE FOR THE RIGHTS OF NATURE THE INSTITUTE FOR THE RIGHTS OF NATURE (IRON) IS FOCUSED ON FULL ENFORCEMENT OF WHITE EARTH'S 2019 RIGHTS OF MANOOMIN LEGISLATION, DESIGNED TO PROTECT NIIBI AND MANOOMIN UNDER TRIBAL LAW. THIS PROGRAM IS ENGAGING COMMUNITY TO DO RESEARCH AND LEARN TOGETHER SO THAT WE CAN SHAPE LAWS, POLICIES, PROCEDURES, AND PRACTICES TO ENFORCE RIGHTS OF MANOOMIN IN AND AROUND WHITE EARTH. THIS WORK IS FUNDED BY FIRST NATIONS DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE AND THE BUSH FOUNDATION COMMUNITY INNOVATION FUND.
TRADITIONAL WOMENS PROGRAMMING WITH SUPPORT FROM CATHOLIC RURAL LIFE, CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND HEADWATERS FOUNDATION FOR JUSTICE, NIIBI CENTER HOSTS SMALL AND LARGE GATHERINGS THAT LIFT UP THE LEADERSHIP OF OUR WOMEN, PARTICULARLY WOMENS ROLE IN PASSING ON KNOWLEDGE AND CEREMONY ABOUT NIIBI AND MANOOMIN. IN 2021 OUR WOMEN HAVE PARTICIPATED IN HISTORICAL HEALING WORK, LANGUAGE PROGRAM BUILDING AND PROTECTING OUR WATER.
CULTURAL REVITALIZATION THROUGH LANGUAGE IMMERSION THE OJIBWE LANGUAGE IS CENTRAL TO OUR CULTURE AND SURVIVAL. WITH SUPPORT FROM BLANDIN FOUNDATION, NIIBI CENTER IS BUILDING A HOME BASED, FAMILY CENTERED IMMERSION PROGRAM THAT WILL SUPPORT TODAYS ANISHINAABE FAMILY TO LEARN OUR LANGUAGE AND TRADITIONS. WORK ON CURRICULUM BUILDING AND TEACHER TRAINING BEGAN IN FALL 2021.
