THE PURPOSE OF THIS CORPORATION IS TO (1) ADVANCE MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS, INSPIRE MENTAL HEALTH LEADERSHIP, DE-STIGMATIZE MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES, AND PRIORITIZE THE DELIVERY OF MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES WITHIN AND OUTSIDE CALIFORNIA; AND (2) ENGAGE IN ANY OTHER CHARITABLE ACTIVITIES.

THE STEINBERG INSTITUTE WAS CREATED TO UPEND THE STATUS QUO AND INCREASE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF MENTAL HEALTH POLICYMAKING IN CALIFORNIA. SINCE OUR FOUNDING IN 2015, THE INSTITUTE HAS HELPED ENACT SWEEPING IMPROVEMENTS IN CALIFORNIA MENTAL HEALTH POLICY, INCLUDING SECURING SIGNIFICANT FUNDING TO PROVIDE HOUSING AND CARE FOR HOMELESS PEOPLE LIVING WITH BRAIN ILLNESS; PROMOTING PREVENTION AND EARLY INTERVENTION PROGRAMS AND RESEARCH SO THAT YOUNG PEOPLE RECEIVE THE CARE THEY NEED BEFORE THEIR CONDITION BECOMES DISABLING; EXPANDING SUICIDE PREVENTION PROGRAMS AT PUBLIC SCHOOLS, AS WELL AS FUNDING FOR COLLEGE MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES; ADVOCATING FOR SENTENCING REFORM AND LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING WITH THE AIM OF DECRIMINALIZING BRAIN ILLNESS; INCREASING THE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH WORKFORCE; AND EDUCATING DECISION MAKERS AND BUSINESS LEADERS SO THAT THEY EMBRACE QUALITY MENTAL HEALTH CARE AS A TOP-TIER PRIORITY.OUR MISSION OF ADVANCING SOUND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH POLICIES CANNOT SUCCEED WITHOUT ENGAGING, EDUCATING, AND INSPIRING DECISION MAKERS, COALITION MEMBERS, AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC. WE DO THIS BY REGULARLY CONVENING THOUGHT LEADERS FROM AROUND OUR COUNTRY TO DISCUSS DIFFICULT ISSUES THAT WE BELIEVE NEED TO BE ADDRESSED AND IMPROVED UPON SO THAT WE ARE FINALLY ABLE TO PROVIDE THE CARE AND SUPPORT TO PEOPLE LIVING WITH A MENTAL ILLNESS THAT THEY NEED AND DESERVE.WE BELIEVE THAT ACCESS TO QUALITY MENTAL HEALTH CARE IS ONE OF THE MOST PRESSING CIVIL RIGHTS ISSUES OF OUR TIME. THE STEINBERG INSTITUTE IS COMMITTED TO BRINGING TOGETHER LEADERS IN GOVERNMENT, MEDICINE, RESEARCH, BUSINESS AND TECHNOLOGY TO ADVANCE THE DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF BRAIN ILLNESS, AND TO USHER IN A SYSTEM OF CARE IN WHICH BRAIN HEALTH IS TREATED WITH THE SAME SWEEP AND URGENCY AS PHYSICAL HEALTH.
