IN 2023, THE NEC SOCIETY REACHED MORE PATIENT-FAMILIES AFFECTED BY NECROTIZING ENTEROCOLITIS (NEC) THAN EVER BEFORE. WE ALSO HOSTED NORTH AMERICAS ONLY CONFERENCE ON NEC, WHICH BROUGHT TOGETHER MORE THAN 200 PARTICIPANTS FROM 9 COUNTIRES AND 35 US STATES. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OUR SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY COUNCIL AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS, WE PUBLISHED MORE THAN 200 RESEARCH ARTICLES ON NEC. WE ALSO RELEASED A STORYBOOK FOR BEREAVED FAMILIES, TITLED FOREVER OUR LITTLE ONE. OUR COMMUNITYS STRENGTH INSPIRES US TO WORK TIRELESSLY TOWARD A WORLD WITHOUT THE DEVASTATION OF NEC. THE NEC SYMPOSIUM IS THE ONLY CONFERENCE IN NORTH AMERICA FOCUSED ON NECROTIZING ENTEROCOLITIS AND THE ONLY NEC MEETING IN THE WORLD THAT UNITIES THE PATIENT-FAMILY AND CLINICIAN-SCIENTIST COMMUNITY. THE NEC SYMPOSIUM, HOSTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CINCINNATI CHILDRENS HOSPITAL, PRESENTED 20 EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS TO MORE THAN 200 PARTICIPANTS FROM 9 COUNTRIES AND 35 US STATES. THE CONFERENCE AIMED TO TRANSFORM OUR NEWLY ESTABLISHED NEC RESEARCH PRIORITIES INTO ACTIONABLE RESEARCH PROJECTS. THE NEC SOCIETY PROVIDED EDUCATIONAL RESOURCERS OF EMPOWERMENT AND COMFORT, INCLUDING STORYBOOKS, TO MORE THAN 500 FAMILIES WITH A CHILD RECENTLY DIAGNOSED WITH NEC OR WHO RECENTLY LOST THEIR CHILD TO NEC. THE NEC BIOREPOSITORY ENROLLED MORE THAN 300 INFANTS, BRINGING US CLOSER TO UNDERSTANDING HOW AND WHY THIS DISEASE OCCURS SO WE CAN LEARN HOW TO PREVENT THE DISEASE. THE NEC SOCIETY ALSO PRESENTED AT AND PARTICIPATED IN THE PEDIATRIC ACADEMIC SOCIEITIES MEETING, THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS MEETING, AND CONFERNECES AROUND NORTH AMERICA THROUGOUT THE YEAR TO ADVANCE THE SCIENCE OF NEC AND URGENCY OF OUR WORK. WE ALSO CONTINUED TO EXPAND OUR PATIENT-FAMILY AND CLINICIAN-SCIENTIST COMMUNITIES THROUGH THE NEC RESEARCH INCUBATOR.
