WPAS PURPOSE IS TO STIMULATE THE EXCHANGE OF SCIENTIFIC AND PROFESSIONAL IDEAS IN PSYCHOLOGY BY ENHANCING INTEREST, RESEARCH AND SCHOLARSHIP IN THE DISCIPLINE. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH AN ANNUAL RESEARCH CONFERENCE, AS WELL AS OUR WEBSITE AND NEWSLETTER.

THE ANNUAL WESTERN PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION (WPA) CONVENTION PROVIDES TEACHING CONFERENCES, STATISTICS WORKSHOPS, POSTER AND PAPER SESSIONS, SYMPOSIA, PRESENTATIONS BY MAJOR PSYCHOLOGISTS, AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR PROFESSIONALS AND STUDENTS TO INTERACT AND LEARN FROM ONE ANOTHER. SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS ARE PRESENTED TO MEMBERS RECOGNIZING OUTSTANDING TEACHING, RESEARCH, AND PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS. AS PART OF OUR CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION, WE COMMISSIONED A BOOK THAT DOCUMENTS THE 100-YEAR HISTORY OF THE ASSOCIATION.
BASED ON A BLIND REVIEW OF THEIR ABSTRACTS, THE PROGRAM REVIEW COMMITTEE SELECTS STUDENTS WHO ARE LISTED AS FIRST AUTHORS OF THEIR ABSTRACTS FOR THE WESTERN PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS. EACH OF THESE OUTSTANDING STUDENTS RECEIVES THEIR AWARD AT THE WPA AWARDS PRESENTATION AT THE CONVENTION. EACH STUDENT SCHOLAR WILL RECEIVE A CASH AWARD FOR RESEARCH EXCELLENCE.
