Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
TO TRANSFORM YOUNG PEOPLES' LIVES THROUGH LONG DISTANCE RUNNING AND MENTORSHIP.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
SRPS YOUTH (6TH-GRADUATION) ARE PAIRED WITH SUPPORTIVE MENTORS WHO TRAIN ALONGSIDE THEM, STUDENTS PROVE THEY CAN CONTINUE TO PUSH FORWARD REGARDLESS OF HOW FAR AWAY THE FINISH LINE MAY SEEM. ENDURANCE IS HABIT FORMING, AND AS STUDENTS LEARN TO SET AND ACCOMPLISH GOALS PHYSICALLY, THESE SKILLS TRANSFER TO PROBLEM-SOLVING ELSEWHERE. TO KEEP MOVING FORWARD, STUDENTS MUST BE PATIENT, DEDICATED, AND ESSENTIALLY, RESILIENT. THESE LEARNED BEHAVIORS TEACH STUDENTS THAT SUCCESS IN A RACE DOES NOT DEPEND ON BEING THE FASTEST, BUT RATHER ON CROSSING THE FINISH LINE. BY APPLYING THESE LEARNED BEHAVIORS, STUDENTS LEARN THE VALUE OF SHOWING UP AND TROUBLESHOOTING CHALLENGES. [CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O]STUDENTS AND MENTORS MEET THREE TIMES A WEEK AND CULMINATE IN A MILESTONE RACE, THE PHILADELPHIA FULL OR HALF MARATHON OR THE BROAD STREET TEN MILER. SRPS ORGANIZES MONTHLY EVENTS, ROAD RACES, LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AND VOLUNTEER EVENTS.SRPS ALSO OPERATES MILEUP, A YOUTH DIVERSION, RUNNING AND MENTORING PROGRAM IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE PHILADELPHIA OFFICE OF THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY, AND OUTPACE, A PROGRAM SUPPORTING MENTORING FOR LGBTQ+ YOUTH THROUGH RUNNING.
