WE ARE INDIGENOUS PEOPLES OF THE GREAT PLAINS PROACTIVELY WORKING TO RESIST AND INDIGENIZE COLONIAL-CAPITALIST INSTITUTIONS AND BEHAVIORS. WE DEFEND THE LAND WHERE OUR ANCESTORS LIE AND WHERE THE CHILDREN WALK. OUR GOAL IS TO RECLAIM WHAT HAS BEEN STOLEN AND OPPRESSED TO CREATE A BETTER WORLD FOR US ALL.

GREAT PLAINS ACTION SOCIETY HAD AN EXCITING YEAR OF GROWTH AND ACTIVITY IN 2020. WE BEGAN THE YEAR WITH THE MISSION TO FOCUS ON OUR VOTING REGISTRATION PROGRAM, THE RIVERLAND NATIVE VOTING PROJECT. THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC FORCED US TO MOVE MUCH OF OUR PROGRAMS TO ONLINE, BUT WE WERE ABLE TO DO SO AND STAY EFFECTIVE. WITH PROPER PRECAUTIONS WE HAD MANY VOTER REGISTRATION EVENTS IN SIOUX CITY, IOWA CITY,AND DES MOINES, IOWA. GREAT PLAINS ACTION SOCIETY AND THE URBAN NATIVE CENTER TEAMED UP TOGETHER TO HELP RAISE MONEY FOR THE URBAN NATIVE EMERGENCY COVID-19 FUNDRAISER TO PROVIDE SOME OF THE BASIC HYGIENE NECESSITIES AND PPE TO THE INDIGENOUS POPULATION THAT RESIDES IN THE TRI-STATE AREA OF IOWA, NEBRASKA, AND SOUTH DAKOTA. WE WERE ABLE TO HELP OVER 100 FAMILIES AND 80 STUDENTS WITH DUFFLE BAGS FILLED WITH VARIOUS ITEMS. ALONG WITH 70 OTHER ORGANIZATIONS IN IOWA, GREAT PLAINS ACTION SOCIETY ORGANIZED AND CO-SPONSORED THE CLIMATE CRISIS UNITY PARADE DAYS BEFORE THE IOWA CAUCUS IN AN EFFORT TO RAISE AWARENESS OF THE CLIMATE CRISIS.
