THE FOUNDATION IS DEDICATED TO ENHANCING THE CULTURAL, INTELLECTUAL, (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL WELL-BEING OF OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH PHILANTHROPIC PROGRAMS AND EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
SCHOLARSHIPS: DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS, NO IN-PERSON COMMITTEE MEETINGS WERE HELD AND ALL COMMUNICATION WAS THROUGH ZOOM, EMAIL AND PHONE CALLS. IN COLLABORATION WITH THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF COLLIER COUNTY (CFCC- SEE SCH I) AND USING FUNDS RAISED BY THE FOUNDATION, 14 RENEWABLE SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED IN 2020. RECIPIENTS WERE ALL EMPLOYEES OR DEPENDENTS OF EMPLOYEES OF VI AT BENTLEY VILLAGE, A NAPLES CONTINUING CARE RETIREMENT COMMUNITY. ALL SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS ARE DISBURSED FROM A DESIGNATED ACCOUNT UNDER THE UMBRELLA OF CCFC DIRECTLY TO THE LEARNING INSTITUTIONS PER-A WRITTEN AGREEMENT BETWEEN CCFC AND THE FOUNDATION. 100% OF THIS YEAR'S FUNDS CAME FROM THE FOUNDATION. AWARDEES WERE SELECTED VIA APPLICATIONS SCORED ON A MATRIX DEVELOPED COOPERATIVELY BY THE TWO ORGANIZATIONS. (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O) AWARDEES MAY RECEIVE ANNUAL RENEWALS UNTIL THEIR ORIGINAL COURSES OF STUDY ARE COMPLETED. IN OCTOBER, THE AWARD WAS INCREASED FROM $4,000 TO $6,000 PER NEW STUDENT. OUR "BENTLEY WINGS" SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM IS THE LARGEST PROGRAM ADMINISTERED BY CCCF. MANY AWARDEES HAVE GRADUATED. OUR PROGRAM IS ALSO THE ONLY ONE TO GUARANTEE ITS STUDENTS ANNUAL RENEWAL AVAILABILITY. ENDOWMENT FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM WAS INCREASED IN 2020. AT 12/31/20, THE FOUNDATION HAS COMMITTED $502,818 TO SUPPORT OUR CURRENT SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS THROUGH THE COMPLETION OF THEIR COURSES OF STUDY.
COVID 19 RESPONSE: AWARDS ALREADY APPROVED IN 2020, WHEN COVID-RESTRICTIONS WENT INTO PLACE, WERE CONTINUED WHERE POSSIBLE IN OUR FACE-TO-FACE PROGRAMS, BUT WERE GREATLY REDUCED. PROGRAM RESOURCES WERE SHIFTED TO ADDRESS IMMEDIATE COVID-19 CONCERNS ON CAMPUS AND LATER TO HELP ADDRESS CRITICAL COUNTY ISSUES EXACERBATED BY THE PANDEMIC--HOMELESSNESS AND HUNGER. THE FOUNDATION JOINED HANDS WITH VI AT BENTLEY VILLAGE TO BOLSTER PROTECTION FOR RESIDENTS AND EMPLOYEES. SUPPLY LINES, ALREADY STRAINED AND HAMPERED BY SHORTAGES OF VITAL EQUIPMENT, RISKED INTERRUPTION AT CRITICAL TIMES. TO HELP COPE WITH THIS CRISIS, THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED SUPPLEMENTAL PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT TO THE CARE CENTER AND ALR THROUGH A SPECIAL BUYING PROGRAM SET UP BY AMAZON FOR NON-PROFITS. (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)APPROVED BY THE BOARD IN MAY, THE FOUNDATION ISSUED RELIEF CHECKS TO EIGHT FOUNDATION SELF-EMPLOYED CONTRACTORS WHO HAD BEEN PROVIDING VITAL AND SPECIALIZED PROGRAM SERVICES FOR OUR MEMORY, MINDFULNESS, AND MUSIC THERAPY SERVICES AND TO OURT HERAPEUTIC MASSAGE PROGRAM. THE FOUNDATION JOINED WITH THE HUNGER AND HOMELESS COALITION OF COLLIER COUNTY TO MAKE $20,000 AVAILABLE TO INDIVIDUALS IDENTIFIED BY THE COALITION. BENTLEY VILLAGE RESIDENTS WERE CHALLENGED TO JOIN US AND ANOTHER $21,576 WAS RAISED FOR THE COALITION. IN ADDITION, ALL NON-MANAGEMENT EMPLOYEES OF VI AT BENTLEY VILLAGE WERE PROVIDED WITH $100 PUBLIX FOOD CARDS TO ASSIST WITH FOOD INSECURITY.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS: OUR 2019 PROGRAMS IN MUSIC, MEMORY ANDMUSIC THERAPY WERE BUDGETED TO CONTINUE IN THE MEMORY CAREUNITS, FOR THE LONG TERM CARE PATIENTS OF THE BENTLEY CARE CENTERAND ASSISTED LIVING, AS WELL AS OTHER RESIDENTS. HOWEVER, THESEWERE TERMINATED ON MARCH 13, 2020, WITH THE COMMUNITY-WIDESHUT DOWN.
