THE HAYWOOD BURNS INSTITUTE (BI) IS A BLACK-LED NATIONAL, NON-PROFIT WITH A DIVERSE TEAM WORKING TO TRANSFORM THE ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE. BI WORKS TO ESTABLISH A COMMUNITY CENTERED APPROACH TO TRANSFORMATION THAT IS ANCHORED IN STRUCTURAL WELL-BEING.

TULSA (OK). BI HELPED FACILITATE THE CITYS WORK WITH THE HISTORIC GREENWOOD-BLACK WALL STREET COMMUNITIES TO ADDRESS THE INEQUITIES ARISING FROM THE 1921 TULSA RACE MASSACRE AND SUBSEQUENT URBAN RENEWAL POLICIES. THE COMMUNITY-LED DEVELOPMENT UPHOLDS THE WELL-BEING OF BLACK NORTH TULSANS AND ADVANCES EQUITABLE BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT.


LOS ANGELES (CA). IN A MULTI-YEAR, COMMUNITY-SYSTEMS PARTNERSHIP EFFORT, FOR WHICH BI HAS BEEN THE PRIMARY FACILITATOR, LOS ANGELES COUNTY CONTINUED TO TRANSFORM ITS YOUTH JUSTICE SYSTEM. BI PROVIDED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND OTHER SUPPORT TO THE NEWLY FORMED DEPARTMENT OF YOUTH DEVELOPMENT, THE RESULT OF THE COMMUNITY-SYSTEMS RECOMMENDATION FOR A CARE-FIRST YOUTH JUSTICE SYSTEM.


ALAMEDA (CA). BI SUPPORTED THE FREE OUR KIDS COALITION (FOK) THROUGH POLICY ADVOCACY, ACCOUNTABILITY, DATA ANALYSIS, AND WORKSHOPSALL IN AN EFFORT TO TRANSFORM YOUTH JUSTICE IN THE COUNTY.
