THE FORUM OF LABORATORY ACCREDITATION EACH YEAR, TNI SPONSORS TWO MEETINGS WHERE SCIENTISTS, REGULATORS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC GATHER TO ENGAGE IN DIALOGUE ABOUT BUILDING A NATIONAL PROGRAM FOR THE ACCREDITATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL TESTING LABORATORIES AND RELATED ORGANIZATIONS. IN 2020, THE MEETINGS INCLUDED DISCUSSIONS ON EMERGING CONTAMINANTS, ANALYSIS OF COVID IN WASTEWATER, CHARACTERIZATION OF POLYFLUOROALKYL SUBSTANCES IN THE ENVIRONMENT, AND ANALYZING MICROPLASTICS. OVER 800 INDIVIDUALS PARTICIPATED IN THE 2019 MEETINGS. FOR THE FIFTEENTH YEAR, THE SUMMER MEETING WAS COMBINED WITH THE NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING CONFERENCE IN COOPERATION WTIH THE US ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY.
NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL LABORATORY ACCREDITATION PROGRAM TNI'S NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL LABORATORY ACCREDITATION PROGRAM(NELAP) NOW HAS 14 STATES AND 15 ACCREDITATION BODIES(AB'S) THAT ACCREDIT OVER 2000 LABORATORIES IN THE US AND INTERNATIONALLY. IN 2020,THE MAJOR FOCUS OF NELAP WAS TO SHIFT TO REMOTE LABORATORY ASSESSMENTS DUE TO COVID PANDEMIC.
CONSENSUS STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT IN 2020, TNI'S CONSENSUS STANDARDS PROGRAM PUBLISHED A REVISED STANDARD FOR ASBESTOS TESTING, BEGAN AN EFFORT TO REVISE THE LANGUAGE RELATED TO A TECHNICAL MANAGER, AND DEVELOPED A TRAINING COURSE ON WHOLE EFFLUENT TOXICITY TESTING.
