SRIC PROVIDES TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO COMMUNITIES ON ENERGY AND NATURAL RESOURCES, URANIUM IMPACT ASSESSMENT, AND NUCLEAR SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND INFORMATION TO THE PUBLIC.

THE URANIUM IMPACT ASSESSMENT PROGRAM PROVIDES MULTI-FACETED ASSISTANCE TO COMMUNITIES IMPACTED BY URANIUM DEVELOPMENT. TWO PROJECTS ARE THE NAVAJO BIRTH COHORT STUDY/ECHO, AND THINKING ZINC, COLLABORATIVE STUDIES TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN URANIUM EXPOSURES AND BIRTH OUTCOMES AND EARLY DEVELOPMENTAL DELAYS ON THE NAVAJO NATION. THE COLLABORATIVE INCLUDES SRIC, UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM, NAVAJO AREA INDIAN HEALTH SERVICE, NAVAJO NATION DIVISION OF HEALTH, AND NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH AND NIEHS.THE WEBSITES, HTTP://WWW.SRIC.ORG/NBCS/INDEX.PHP ANDHTTP://SRIC.ORG/ZINC/INDEX.PHP PROVIDE EXTENSIVE INFORMATION.


THE NUCLEAR WASTE PROGRAM PROVIDES TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO COMMUNITY GROUPS AND INFORMATION TO THE PUBLIC AND POLICYMAKERS REGARDING NUCLEAR WEAPONS PRODUCTION FACILITIES IN NEW MEXICO, AND NUCLEAR WASTE FACILITIES, ESPECIALLY WIPP IN NEW MEXICO AND SITES THAT SHIP TO WIPP. ENERGY PROGRAM SERVICES PROVIDE INFORMATION TO THE PUBLIC AND REPRESENTATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL AND PUBLIC INTEREST COMMUNITY CONCERNS BY THE COALITION FOR CLEAN AFFORDABLE ENERGY (CCAE) PRIMARILY BEFORE THE NEW MEXICO PUBLIC REGULATION COMMISSION. CCAE PROMOTES RENEWABLE ENERGY, ENERGY EFFICIENCY, AND ENERGY CONSERVATION PROGRAMS THAT ADDRESS CLIMATE CHANGE AND POLLUTION WHILE PROMOTING A JUST TRANSITION FOR AFFECTED COMMUNITIES.
