Part 3 - Line 1
TO PROTECT AMERICA'S AIR, WATER AND OPEN SPACES BY CONDUCTING RESEARCH, CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND PUBLIC EDUCATION ON THOSE ISSUES.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
GLOBAL WARMING: GLOBAL WARMING IS AN ENORMOUS THREAT. BUT IT'S JUST ONE SYMPTOM OF OUR UNHEALTHY RELATIONSHIP TO OUR ENVIRONMENT. TO MEET THE CLIMATE CHALLENGE, WE MUST PUT THE ENVIRONMENT FIRST. OUR FOCUS IS ON MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN PUBLIC POLICY AND IN OUR LIVES AND OUR ENVIRONMENT, NOT JUST MAKING A STATEMENT. WE ARE SUPPORTING THE FOSSIL FUEL DIVESTMENT MOVEMENT AND WORKING TO PROMOTE CLEAN ENERGY, SUPPORTING ZERO-DEFORESTATION, PUSHING FOR ALL NEW VEHICLES TO BE ELECTRIC BY 2035 AND CONTINUING OUR WORK UNDER THE REGIONAL GREENHOUSE GAS INITIATIVE.
CLEAN WATER AND AIR:ENVIRONMENT AMERICA TAKES CONCRETE STEPS TO MOVE US CLOSER TO THE WORLD WE WANT TO LIVE IN, FROM HOLDING ILLEGAL WATER AND AIR POLLUTERS ACCOUNTABLE TO NETWORKING LOCAL CITIZENS WHO SERVE AS CHAMPIONS OF THE LOCAL WATERS THEY LOVE. FOR 30 YEARS, OUR LITIGATION TEAM HAS TAKEN POLLUTERS DIRECTLY TO COURT UNDER THE CLEAN WATER ACT. WE ARE CONTINUING THE FIGHT FOR CLEAN WATER BY CALLING ON STATE AND LOCAL LEADERS TO GET THE LEAD OUT, STARTING WITH SCHOOLS AND DAY CARE CENTERS.
CONSERVATION:THE VALUE OF NATURE IS IMMEASURABLE, DERIVED NOT ONLY FROM THE RESOURCES IT PROVIDES BUT FROM ITS INHERENT BEAUTY. "IN WILDNESS," AS THOREAU PUT IT, "IS THE PRESERVATION OF THE WORLD." FORTUNATELY, WE LIVE IN THE COUNTRY THAT CREATED THE WORLD'S FIRST NATIONAL PARKS. WE'VE WON POLICIES THAT HAVE RESULTED IN MORE PROTECTIONS FOR OPEN SPACES, WILD PLACES AND WILDLIFE AT EVERY LEVEL. FROM WINNING BANS ON DISPOSABLE PLASTIC BAGS TO REACHING 670,000 PEOPLE WITH OUR CALL TO BAN BEE-KILLING PESTICIDES, FROM PUTTING NEARLY 60 MILLION ACRES OF NATIONAL FOREST OFF-LIMITS TO LOGGING AND NEW ROADS TO A 20-YEAR MORATORIUM ON NEW MINING AROUND THE GRAND CANYON. THROUGH OUR RESEARCH AND PUBLIC EDUCATION, WE'RE WORKING TO SHIFT MORE HEARTS AND MINDS OVER TO THIS POINT OF VIEW.
