MAINSTREET UPTOWN BUTTE WORKS TO REJUVENATE UPTOWN BUTTE, MONTANA BY EMBRACING THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF THE ARTS TO LEAD TO ECONOMIC VITALITY AND CULTURAL VIBRANCY, ENCOURAGING RICH AND DIVERSE PERFORMING AND VISUAL ARTS. MAINSTREET UPTOWN BUTTE APPLIES THE POWER OF THE ARTS TO IMPLEMENT THE FOUR POINTS OF THE MAIN STREET APPROACH -- WORKING TO VISUALLY ENHANCE UPTOWN BUTTE, ENCOURAGING COMMERCE TO CONTRIBUTE TO A VIBRANT UPTOWN ECONOMY, PROMOTING UPTOWN'S ASSETS INCLUDING BUSINESSES AND ATTRACTIONS WITH A GOAL OF PRESERVING HISTORIC RESOURCES, AND STRIVING TO WORK WITH ORGANIZATIONS WITH SIMILAR GOALS.

EACH YEAR, MAINSTREET UPTOWN BUTTE, INC. FEATURES PERFORMANCES AND DEMONSTRATIONS BY OVER 200 OF THE NATION'S FINEST MUSICIANS, DANCERS AND CRAFTSPEOPLE THROUGH THE MONTANA FOLK FESTIVAL. THE FESTIVAL SHOWCASES MULTIPLE PERFORMANCES BY MORE THAN 20 ARTISTS/GROUPS ON SIX STAGES INCLUDING A DANCE PAVILION DEDICATED TO PARTICIPATORY DANCING, A FAMILY STAGE WITH PERFORMANCES APPEALING TO CHILDREN OF ALL AGES, AND A MONTANA FOLKLIFE STAGE. IN ADDITION TO THE PERFORMANCE STAGES, THERE ARE SEVERAL THEMED FESTIVAL AREAS: THE MONTANA FOLKLIFE AREA, THE FAMILY AREA, TWO FESTIVAL MARKETPLACES AND THE FESTIVAL FOOD COURTS. ADMISSION THROUGHOUT THE THREE-DAY FESTIVAL IS FREE FOR EVERYONE. THE FESTIVAL ATTRACTS AN ESTIMATED 170,000 VISITORS ANNUALLY TO BUTTE, MONTANA'S NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK DISTRICT.
