IN 2021, WE OPENED NEW FACILITIES IN OUR LOCAL PARKS AND MAINTAINED AND RESTORED LOCAL FAVORITES. TOGETHER, WE BUILT TWO NEW PUMP TRACKS ON OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE COUNTY, WORKED ALONG THE CALIFORNIA STATE PARKS TEAM TO REBUILD TRAILS IN THE FALL CREEK UNIT OF HENRY COWELL REDWOODS STATE PARK, AND BROUGHT BACK DIG DAYS, OUR WILDLY POPULAR DAY-LONG VOLUNTEER TRAIL WORK EVENTS, IN ALL NEW LOCATIONS. TO CAP THINGS OFF, WE ARE WORKING WITH THE BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT TO OPEN PUBLIC ACCESS FOR THE FIRST TIME AT COTONI-COAST DAIRIES UNIT OF THE CALIFORNIA COASTAL NATIONAL MONUMENT BY BREAKING GROUND ON 19 MILES OF NEW TRAILS. 2021 PROJECTS LIKE THE RAMSAY PARK PUMP TRACK IN WATSONVILLE, THE WESTSIDE PUMP TRACK IN SANTA CRUZ, AND THE COTONI-COAST DAIRIES TRAIL NETWORK HAVE BEEN IN THE WORKS FOR YEARS, IF NOT DECADES. 2021 KEY STATS:- 50 MILES OF TRAIL MAINTAINED- 2 NEW PUMP TRACKS- 467 UNIQUE VOLUNTEERS- 80% FIRST-TIME VOLUNTEERS- 2,724 TOTAL VOLUNTEER HOURSTRAIL PROJECTSRAMSAY PARK PUMP TRACK- ALONGSIDE THE CITY OF WATSONVILLE, OUR TEAM DESIGNED AND CONSTRUCTED THE ALL-NEW RAMSAY PARK PUMP TRACK IN THE HEART OF WATSONVILLE. PROJECT DETAILS: - THIS TRACK IS 20,000 SQUARE FEET, MAKING IT THE LARGEST PUMP TRACK IN SANTA CRUZ COUNTY. - CONSTRUCTION INCLUDED 500 OF STORM DRAINAGE PIPES, PLUS 8,000 SQUARE FEET OF NATIVE LANDSCAPING WITH DRIP IRRIGATION. RESULTS:- THE ALL-NEW RAMSAY PARK PUMP TRACK HAS ALREADY BECOME ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR OUTDOOR AREAS IN THE COUNTY, WITH THOUSANDS OF CYCLISTS HITTING THE TRACK EACH MONTH. - ITS BOTH BEAUTIFUL AND VIRTUALLY MAINTENANCE-FREE, WITH UNDERGROUND STORM DRAINAGE AND SURROUNDING LANDSCAPING FEATURING DROUGHT-TOLERANT PLANTS.HELMET GIVEAWAY: - TO BOOST LOCAL BIKE SAFETY, WE GAVE AWAY 180 HELMETS TO COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN NEED.
