WE DESIGN AND IMPLEMENT HUMANITARIAN PROGRAMS THAT BUILD CAPACITY, DEVELOP OPPORTUNITIES, AND SAVE LIVES AROUND THE WORLD. WITH ALL OF OUR PROGRAMS, WE BELIEVE THE BEST WAY TO PROVIDE EFFECTIVE AND SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS THAT BRING ABOUT LASTING CHANGE, IS BY WORKING WITH IN-COUNTRY PARTNERS AND COMING ALONGSIDE THEM TO INCREASE THEIR CAPACITY. WE WORK WITH A WIDE VARIETY OF PARTNERS INCLUDING FOUNDATIONS, HOSPITAL GROUPS, SERVICE CLUBS, CORPORATIONS, FAITH-BASED GROUPS, INDIVIDUAL DONORS AND IN-COUNTRY TEAMS. PROJECTS HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY IN OVER 60 COUNTRIES IMPACTING THOUSANDS WITH OPPORTUNITIES AND HOPE FOR A BETTER FUTURE.
OUR COMMUNITY:ASSIST PROGRAM WAS ABLE TO RECEIVE 7.9M VALUE OF GOODS AND DISTRIBUTE THEM TO THOSE IN NEED BOTH LOCALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY, DESPITE THE ONGOING LOCKDOWNS DUE TO COVID-19, THANKS TO 54 COVID TRAINED VOLUNTEERS WHO DONATED THOUSANDS OF HOURS TO PROCESS AND DISTRIBUTE THE DONATED GOODS. THE MAJORITY OF THESE GOODS WERE RECEIVED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH WORLD VISION WHERE A LARGE WAREHOUSE WHOLESALER DONATES ITEMS, AND CLOSE TO 19% OF THESE GOODS WERE FROM OTHER DONORS/PARTNERS. THESE ITEMS ARE DISTRIBUTED TO INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS TO CARE FOR THE HOMELESS, SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, HUMAN TRAFFICKING, CRISIS PREGNANCIES, LOW-INCOME FAMILIES, FOSTER CHILDREN, ORPHANAGES, SURVIVORS OF DISASTERS (FIRES, TORNADOS, ETC.) AND REFUGEES. ITEMS WERE DISTRIBUTED IN THE US, ROMANIA, NAMBIA, MEXICO AND MALAWI.
OUR GLOBAL HEALTH PROGRAM, HEALTH:ASSIST, CONTINUED TO RESPOND TO THE ONGOING PROGRAMS AND THE INCREASED NEEDS DURING AND BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC.
SINCE THE BEGINNING IN 1990, ASSIST INTERNATIONAL HAS BEEN COMMITTED TO PROVIDING ORPHANED AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN WITH HOPE, HEALTH AND OPPORTUNITY. OVER THE LAST 31 YEARS, ASSIST INTERNATIONAL'S WORK HAS EXPANDED GLOBALLY TO INCLUDE HUMANITARIAN PROJECTS THAT SUPPORT HEALTH- SYSTEMS STRENGTHENING (E.G., MEDICAL OXYGEN SYSTEMS, MEDICAL CAPACITY BUILDING, AND BIOMEDICAL EQUIPMENT AND REPAIR), ACCESS TO WASH (WATER, SANITATION, AND HYGIENE), AND EMERGENCY DISASTER RELIEF (DOMESTIC AND GLOBAL) IN ADDITION TO OUR EXTENSIVE PROGRAMS THAT CARE FOR ORPHANED AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN. CURRENTLY, OUR LARGEST GLOBAL HEALTH PORTFOLIO IS OUR OXYGEN:ASSIST PROGRAM, WHICH USES AN ECOSYSTEM APPROACH TO SUSTAINABLY IMPROVE ACCESS TO LIFESAVING MEDICAL OXYGEN THERAPIES IN RESOURCE- CONSTRAINED CONTEXTS. THIS PROGRAM HAS BECOME PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT IN THE CONTEXT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, BY IMPROVING ACCESS TO CONSISTENT OXYGEN SUPPLY IN OVER 185 HOSPITALS IN SUB SAHARAN AFRICA, WHOSE TOTAL INPATIENT FLOWS HAVE EXCEEDED 4M PEOPLE SINCE OUR PROGRAM INCEPTION.
