ASSIST INTERNATIONAL IS A HUMANITARIAN ORGANIZATION ADDRESSING THE NEEDS OF THE WORLDS MOST VULNERABLE PEOPLE.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
OUR HEALTH:ASSIST IMPACT AFRICA PROGRAM SCALED TO HELP WITH THE NATIONAL SHORTAGE OF ANESTHESIA PROVIDERS IN TANZANIA (3 TRAINING INSTITUTIONS), ETHIOPIA (2 TRAINING INSTITUTIONS) AND KENYA (2 TRAINING INSTITUTIONS. IN THE MOST (MOBILE OBSTETRIC SIMULATION TRAINING), 351 CLINICIANS IN 10 MEDICAL FACILITIES WERE TRAINED ON OBSTETRIC BEST PRACTICES, SHOWING SIGNIFICANT IMPACT IN LIVES SAVED DURING CHILDBIRTH FOLLOWING THE TRAININGS. IN ADDITION, OUR BMET TRAINING PROGRAM IN CAMBODIA SAW 20 WORKSHOP ATTENDEES AND TRAINED 12 BMETS ACROSS 3 SITES TO CREATE A FOUNDATION FOR SUSTAINABLY MAINTAINING HOSPITAL EQUIPMENT. IN ADDITION, OUR OXYGEN:ASSIST PROGRAM PROVIDED NATION WIDE MEDICAL OXYGEN ECOSYSTEMS IN SRI LANKA, MALDIVES, PANAMA, PARAGUAY, AS WELL AS ASSESSED 30 OXYGEN PSA PLANTS IN ETHIOPIA, RWANDA GHANDA, BURUNDI AND BURKINO FASO TO FIND SOLUTIONS TO ENSURE THE PLANTS FUNCTION PROPERLY. ADDITIONALLY 12 HOSPITALS IN NIGERIA AND UGANDA WERE ASSESSED TO HELP DESIGN OXYGEN PIPING SYSTEMS THAT WILL PROVIDE OXYGEN TO KEY WARDS OF THE HOSPITALS.
OUR COMMUNITY:ASSIST PROGRAM DISTRIBUTED OVER 10.3M VALUE OF GOODS TO THOSE IN NEED BOTH LOCALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY, INCLUDING SHIPMENTS TO UKRAINE. OVER 60% OF THESE GOODS WERE RECEIVED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH WORLD VISION WHERE A LARGE WAREHOUSE WHOLESALER DONATES ITEMS, AND CLOSE TO 37% OF THESE GOODS WERE FROM OTHER DONORS/PARTNERS. THESE ITEMS ARE DISTRIBUTED TO INDIVIDUALS IN NEED AND GROUPS WHO CARE FOR THE HOMELESS, SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, HUMAN TRAFFICKING, CRISIS PREGNANCIES, LOW-INCOME FAMILIES, FOSTER CHILDREN, ORPHANAGES, SURVIVORS OF DISASTERS (FIRES, TORNADOS, ETC.), AND REFUGEES. ITEMS WERE DISTRIBUTED IN THE US, ROMANIA, NAMBIA, MEXICO AND MALAWI. SINCE THE BEGINNING IN 1990, ASSIST INTERNATIONAL HAS BEEN COMMITTED TO PROVIDING ORPHANED AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN WITH HOPE, HEALTH AND OPPORTUNITY. OVER THE LAST 32 YEARS, ASSIST INTERNATIONAL'S WORK HAS CONTINUED TO EXPAND GLOBALLY TO INCLUDE HUMANITARIAN PROJECTS THAT SUPPORT HEALTH-SYSTEMS STRENGTHENING (E.G., MEDICAL OXYGEN SYSTEMS, MEDICAL CAPACITY BUILDING, AND BIOMEDICAL TRAINING FOR SUSTAINABILITY), ACCESS TO WASH (WATER, SANITATION, AND HYGIENE), AND EMERGENCY DISASTER RELIEF (OUR LARGEST GLOBAL HEALTH PORTFOLIO IS OUR OXYGEN:ASSIST PROGRAM, WHICH USES AN ECOSYSTEM APPROACH TO SUSTAINABLY IMPROVE ACCESS TO LIFESAVING MEDICAL OXYGEN THERAPIES IN RESOURCE-CONSTRAINED CONTEXTS..
RESPONDING TO THE CRISIS IN UKRAINE, ASSIST INTERNATIONAL, IN COORDINATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH IN UKRAINE AND IN PARTNERSHIP WITH A LARGE CORPORATE PARTNER'S DONATION OF 6M IN MEDICAL EQUIPMENT, SHIPPED AND PREPARED URGENTLY NEEDED ESSENTIAL MEDICAL EQUIPMENT IN MARCH OF 2022. MEDICAL EQUIPMENT WAS SHIPPED TO AND PREPARED WITH VOLUNTEERS IN WARSAW, POLAND FOR IMMEDIATE USE IN UKRAINE, AND WAS DISTRIBUTED BY THE UKRAINE MINISTRY OF HEALTH THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY WHERE IT WAS URGENTLY NEEDED.
ASSIST INTERNATIONAL, INC. PARTNERSHIPS, CHILDREN HAVE BEEN GIVEN FAMILIES, HEALTHCARE, FOOD AND EDUCATION IN ROMANIA, THAILAND, UGANDA, RWANDA AND KENYA. IN 2022, THE FOOD SECURITY ISSUES LINGERED FROM THE PANDEMIC AND NATURAL DISASTERS FOR SOME ORPHAN VILLAGE PARTNERS. CHILD SPONSORSHIPS CONTINUED TO RECEIVE SUPPORT, BUT THE INCREASED FOCUS ON SUSTAINABILITY MEASURES WERE IMPACTED DUE TO THE CONTINUED STRUGGLE WITH RECOVERY FROM LOCKDOWNS AND NEW NATURAL DISASTERS. THE TWO FARMS (OVER 45 ACRES) PRODUCED FOOD FOR THE ORPHAN VILLAGES, AND ALSO PROVIDED SOME INCOME FROM SALES OF THE FOOD/CROPS. IN ADDITION, A SECOND POULTRY BUILDING WAS BUILT AT THE SEWING HOPE CHILDREN'S VILLAGE IN ATIAK, UGANDA, DOUBLING THE NUMBER OF CHICKENS THAT CAN BE RAISED FOR FOOD AND SALE. THE FAMILIES CARING FOR ORPHANED CHILDREN IN JINGA WHO HAD BEEN GIVEN GOATS AND CHICKENS SAW GREAT SUCCESS AND SUSTAINABILITY IN 2022. THE FARM ANIMALS REPRODUCED, MAKING A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT IN PROVIDING FOOD FOR ORPHANS AND THOSE CARING FOR THE CHILDREN, AS WELL AS INCOME (BY SELLING FARM ANIMAL) FOR THE HOUSE FAMILIES CARING FOR ORPHANED AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN.
