DOWNTOWN LIGHTS INCLUDED A HOLIDAY LIGHTS ACTIVATION IN PLAZA DE CESAR CHAVEZ THAT RAN FROM THANKSGIVING UNTIL JANUARY 3, 2021 TO BRING PEOPLE DOWNTOWN DURING THE PANDEMIC FOR A SAFE OUTDOOR HOLIDAY EXPERIENCE. OVER 32,000 VISITORS PASSED THROUGH THE PARK DURING THE SIX (6) WEEK RUN OF THE LIGHT BEAUTIFICATION. THE EXPERIENCE INCLUDED A BEAUTIFUL HOLIDAY SPHERE TREE AS WELL AS OTHER LIGHTS THROUGHOUT THE PARK. SJDA ALSO COORDINATED WITH OTHER COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO HELP CREATE A COHESIVE DOWNTOWN LIGHTS PROGRAM INCLUDING ARTS GROUPS, PROPERTY OWNERS AND DOWNTOWN PARTNERS.
THE DOWNTOWN FARMERS' MARKET MOVED TO THE SOFA DISTRICT IN MAY 2021 FOR THE 28TH SEASON, ATTRACTING OVER 15,000 VISITORS OVER 29 FRIDAYS. SJDA PARTNERS WITH PACIFIC COAST FARMERS' MARKET ASSOCIATION TO HELP DELIVER A UNIQUE CALIFORNIA CERTIFIED MARKET THAT FEATURES OVER 15 PRODUCE VENDORS AND FOOD PURVEYORS - INCLUDING GROWERS FROM NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. ADDITIONALLY, THE DOWNTOWN FARMERS' MARKET FEATURES OVER A DOZEN LOCAL MAKERS/CRAFTERS, NONPROFITS AND LOCAL BUSINESSES PROMOTING THEIR SERVICES OR SELLING THEIR WARES. THIS HAS BECOME THE PLACE TO BE ON FRIDAYS IN DOWNTOWN SAN JOSE.
ICE RINK - SAN JOSE'S ONLY OUTDOOR ICE RINK, DOWNTOWN ICE IS A POPULAR ATTRACTION FOR PEOPLE FROM ALL AROUND THE BAY AREA AND ONE OF THE FEW RINKS WITH FORMER OLYMPIC/WORLD FIGURE SKATER KRISTI YAMAGUCHI AS A PARTNER. DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, DOWNTOWN ICE WAS NOT PRODUCED IN 2020-21 BUT WILL RETURN FOR ITS 25TH SEASON IN 2021-22.
