IISME IS A NONPROFIT INDUSTRY-EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP WHOSE MISSION IS TO EMPOWER AND EQUIP CALIFORNIA SCIENCE MATH AND TECHNOLOGY TEACHERS WITH UNIQUE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SO THAT THEY CAN INSPIRE THEIR STUDENTS TO STAY IN SCHOOL AND PREPARE FOR SUCCESSFUL SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING AND MATH STEM-BASED CAREERS IN THE GLOBAL ECONOMY. IISME OFFERS PROGRAMS THAT LEVERAGE THE VAST RESOURCES OF LOCAL CORPORATIONS AND UNIVERSITY LABS AND GALVANIZE THEIR SUPPORT TO HELP TEACHERS IMPROVE THEIR TEACHING AND MOTIVATE STUDENTS TO PURSUE STEM-BASED CAREERS.

SUMMER TEACHER-FELLOW PROGRAM - SUMMER TEACHER-FELLOW PROGRAM - IN THIS FISCAL YEAR IISME DBA IGNITED PROVIDED FELLOWSHIPS FOR 47 TEACHERS FROM 40 SCHOOLS; 51% OF WHOM TEACH IN SCHOOLS WITH A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF EDUCATIONALLY DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS. THESE TEACHERS INCREASED THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF STEM CAREERS GAINED IDEAS ABOUT MAKING THEIR CURRICULUM RELEVANT IN TODAY'S WORKPLACE AND FOUND NEW WAYS TO IMPROVE THEIR TEACHING. IN ADDITION THESE TEACHERS RECEIVED OVER $209,300 IN STIPENDS AND GRANTS PROVIDING A VALUABLE SALARY SUPPLEMENT TO OFFSET OUR REGION'S HIGH COST OF LIVING. 4 TEACHERS WERE AWARDED $2,000 IN FUND FOR INNOVATION FFI GRANTS. FFI IS A COMPETITIVE GRANT PROGRAM FOR IGNITED FELLOWS TO IMPROVE INSTRUCTION IN THEIR CLASSROOMS WITH INNOVATIVE EDUCATIONAL PROJECTS.
WATER CAREER PATHWAY PROGRAM - DURING THIS PROGRAM TEACHERS PARTICIPATE IN IMMERSIVE JOB-SHADOWS WITH A WATER COMPANY FOR A WEEK GENERATING LESSON PLAN IDEAS AND CREATING ONE CURRICULUM PLAN. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR 48 TEACHERS PARTICIPATED IN THIS PROGRAM. THEY INCREASED THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF STEM WORKPLACE CULTURES AND CAREER OPTIONS AND THEY INCREASED THEIR EFFECTIVENESS IN INTEGRATING 21ST CENTURY SKILL AS WELL AS REAL-WORLD INDUSTRY AND RESEARCH EXAMPLES IN THEIR TEACHING. IN ADDITION 4 TEACHERS WERE AWARDED OVER $1,100 TO PURCHASE SUPPLIES TO IMPLEMENT NEW RELATED PROJECTS IN THEIR CLASSROOMS.
INDUSTRY-ALIGNED SCIENCE PROGRAM MODELS - INDUSTRY-ALIGNED SCIENCE PROGRAM MODELS - NEW PROGRAM MODELS AIM TO TRAIN AND SUPPORT EDUCATORS IN TEACHING INDUSTRY-SPECIFIC SCIENCES. TEACHERS ARE EMPOWERED WITH NEW ENHANCED KNOWLEDGE CONFIDENCE RESOURCES AND PEER-SUPPORT TO SUCCESSFULLY INCREASE STUDENT EXPOSURE TO AND INTEREST IN THESE FIELDS. 30 TEACHERS PARTICIPATE IN ACTIVITIES IN THIS FISCAL YEAR. IGNITED IS INTRODUCING NEWER MODELS TO ADDRESS THE CHANGING NEEDS OF OUR CORPORATE PARTNERS AND EDUCATIONAL COMMUNITIES.
