REVITALIZATION OF HISTORIC DOWNTOWN AREA VIA THE PRESERVATION OF RECREATIONAL AREAS, RESTORATION OF HISTORICAL LANDMARK BUILDINGS, AND ENTREPRENEUR ASSISTANCE TO MAINTAIN A VIBRANT MAIN STREET SHOPING DISTRICT; MAKING VOLANT, PA A MORE ATTRACTIVE PLACE TO LIVE AND VISIT.

A FORUM HAS BEEN CREATED TO ALLOW AND ENCURAGE LOCAL AMISH CRAFTSMEN TO MANUFACTURE AND SELL THEIR GOODS INCLUDING HANDCRAFTED FURNITURE, RUGS, QUILTS, AND OTHER HOME FURNISHINGS AS WELL AS ORGANIC HOME BAKED AND CANNED GOODS. SMALL BUSINESS STARTUP SERVICES AND FACILITIES ARE PROVIDED, AS WELL AS ADVICE FROM KNOWLEDGEABLE AND EXPERIENCED LOCAL RETAILERS FOR NEW ENTREPRENEURS. ADDITIONALLY EMPLOYMENT OPPURTUNITIES ARE PROVIDED FOR OLDER AND/OR DISABLED WORKERS.
MAINTAINING AND RESTORE THE HISTORIC VOLANT MILL'S ORIGINAL STONE MILLING OF LOCAL ORGANIC GRAINS. GRANTS HAVE BEEN AWARDED ALLOWING CIRCA 1900 RESTRORATION OF HISTORIC GRAIN MILLING EQUIPMENT. DAM RESTROATION GRANTS FUNDED A NEW CONTROL GATE STRUCTURE NEEDED TO MONITOR WATERFLOW. THE LOCAL COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION IS ASSISTING IN APPLICATIONS FOR TOTAL RESTORATION OF THE DAM THAT WILL PROVIDE THE WATER ENERGY TO POWER THE ANTIQUE GRAIN PROCESSING IT WAS ONCE FAMOUS FOR. THE DAM'S HYDRO ELECTRICAL POTENTIAL WILL GENERATE ON SITE ELECTRICITY AND SALE-BACK OF SURPLUS TO THE LOCAL UTILITY COMPANY. THE USE OF THIS RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCE WILL BE AN EDUCATIONAL MODEL FOR THE LOCAL SCHOOLS AND REINFORCE THE IMPORTANCE OF A GREEN CONSCIOUS SOCIETY.
COMMUNITY PARK - A TWO ACRE COMMUNITY PARK WITH A LARGE PARKING LOT HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED AND MAINTINED FOR RECREATIONAL USE AND CONVENIENT PARKING FOR THE DOWNTOWN SHOPING DISTRICT. THE PARK INCLUDES A PLAYGOUND FOR THE CHILDREN AND A TROUT FISHING STREAM HIGHLY FAVORED BY LOCAL FLY FISHERMEN. THE GROUNDS ALSO CONTAIN A LARGE LAWN FREQUENLY USED BY RESIDENTS AS AN OFF-LEASH EXCERCISE AREA FOR PETS AND A SLOPING HILLSIDE GREAT FOR WINTER TIME SLED RIDING.
