THE HISPANIC HEALTH COALITION WAS ABLE TO CARRY TO CARRY ITS MISSION OF ASSISTING THE HISPANIC COMMUNITY OF HOUSTON THROUGH EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY. THREE MAIN EVENTS ARE HELD EACH YEAR. THESE INCLUDE: VIVE TU VIDA/GETUP! GET MOVING! IN ITS 9TH YEAR VIVE TU VIDA IS HOUSTON'S PREMIER ANNUAL HISPANIC FAMILY PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, HEALTHY LIFESTYLE, AND WELLNESS EVENT OPEN TO ALL AGES AND ALL SIZES DRAWS MORE THAN 1700 PEOPLE ANNUALLY. ATTENDEES ARE ABLE TO LEARN ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND HEALTHY EATING. BASIC MEDICAL TESTING IS AVAILABLE DURING THE EVENT. BOUNCE - A MULTI-WEEK SUMMER PROGRAM THAT EMPOWERS HISPANIC AND AFRICAN AMERICAN GIRLS. AGES OF 9-14, AND THEIR FAMILIES TO ADOPT A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE BY INCORPORATING HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES, DAILY EXERCISE, AND POSITIVE SELF-ESTEEM IN A SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT. A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE U OF H -SCHOOL OF EDUCATION. SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS TO HISPANIC STUDENTS ENROLLED IN HEALTH RELATED FIELDS. A MINIMUM OF 3 SCHOLARSHIPS IS AWARDED TO THESE STUDENTS. LATINO HEALTH SUMMIT - ANNUAL GATHERING THAT BRINGS TOGETHER ACADEMICS IN THE FIELDS OF HEALTH AND WELLNESS, COMMUNITY BUSINESS LEADERS, COMMUNITY MEMBERS, FAITH LEADERS, AND EDUCATORS TO EXPLORE NOVEL WAYS TO IMPROVE THE OVERALL HEALTH OF THE LATINO/HISPANIC COMMUNITY.
