RICJ IS A SOCIAL JUSTICE ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO FIGHTING BIGOTRY AND RACISM AND PROMOTING UNDERSTANDING AND RESPECT AMONG ALL RACES RELIGIONS AND CULTURES THROUGH ADVOCACY CONFLICT RESOLUTION AND EDUCATION.

YOUTH PROGRAMS: YOUTH ACTION COUNCIL IS A YEAR AROUND AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR LEADERSHIP EDUCATION MENTORING AND COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS SERVING AN AVERAGE OF 16 HIGH SCHOOL AGED YOUTH DURING 2022. AS PART OF YAC YOUTH CREATE EDUCATION SERVICE PROJECTS TO ADDRESS THE RICJ MISSION OF FIGHTING PREJUDICE BY BUILDING UNDERSTANDING AND RESPECT IN THEIR OWN COMMUNITIES. THE YOUNG WOMEN'S EQUITY COUNCIL YWEC IS A MENTORING AND CAREER EXPLORATION PROGRAM THAT PAIRED 22 TEEN WOMEN OF COLOR WITH 19 ADULT FEMALE MENTORS OF COLOR WHO ARE COMMUNITY LEADERS AND INFLUENTIAL PROFESSIONALS. THE GROUP MEETS MONTHLY ON SATURDAYS DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR. THE MEETINGS INCLUDED EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATIONS AND ACTIVITIES AND IN INDIVIDUAL MENTORING MEETINGS. OTHER YOUTH PROGRAMS INCLUDED A MENTORING PROGRAM AND A PROGRAM WITH THE PROVIDENCE SCHOOL DISTRICT.
ONE PROVIDENCE FOR YOUTH: THIS SUMMER EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM FOR URBAN YOUTH EMPLOYED 27 YOUTH HALF TIME OVER SIX WEEKS TRAINING THE YOUTH TO FACILITATE WORKSHOPS IN INCLUSION COMMUNITY-BUILDING AND LEADERSHIP IN THE FIRST WEEKS THEN HAVING THE YOUTH CONDUCT THESE WORKSHOPS FOR PEER YOUTH AND ADULTS IN ARTS SERVICE AND OTHER JOB PROGRAMS. YOUTH SERVED 133 PEERS AND ADULTS THROUGH ELEVEN WORKSHOPS.
JUVENILE JUSTICE: PROVIDED TRAINING RESEARCH PROGRAM PLANNING AND SYSTEM CHANGE SERVICES TO 244 PEOPLE THIS YEAR TO HELP REDUCE THE DISPROPORTIONATE AMOUNT OF MINORITY JUVENILES CURRENTLY IN THE RHODE ISLAND JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED BY IMPROVING SYSTEM POLICIES AND COMMUNITY DIVERSION PROGRAMS THAT ALSO INCLUDED FAMILY COURT AND JUVENILE HEARING BOARDS. DURING 2022 RICJ WAS AWARDED TWO GRANTS FOR PRIOR JUVENILE JUSTICE FOR REIMBURSEMENT FOR 2020 AND 2021 EXPENSES.
