AT THE OUTLET SHOPPES OF LAREDO. THIS MARKET CONNECTS SHOPPERS WITH LOCAL FARMERS, FOOD PRODUCERS, AND ARTISANS, PROMOTING HEALTHY LIVING, SUPPORTING THE LOCAL ECONOMY, AND AIDING DOWNTOWN LAREDO'S REVITALIZATION. THE MARKET HAS ALSO ACTED AS AN ECONOMIC INCUBATOR, WITH AT LEAST THREE LOCAL BUSINESSES STARTING AS VENDORS AND NOW OPERATING BRICK-AND-MORTAR STORES. ESTABLISHED DUE TO DOWNTOWN LAREDO'S DESIGNATION AS A FOOD DESERT BY THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, THE MARKET STRIVES TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO FRESH PRODUCE FOR SENIORS AND LOW-INCOME RESIDENTS AFFECTED BY THE AREA'S LACK OF MAJOR GROCERY STORES.

THE EVENT ATTRACTED OVER 3,000 ATTENDEES AND FEATURED LIVE MUSIC, LOCAL VENDORS, AND CRAFT BREWERIES. THE FESTIVAL NOT ONLY OFFERED ENTERTAINMENT BUT ALSO MADE A SIGNIFICANT ECONOMIC IMPACT ON THE DOWNTOWN AREA, SHOWCASING THE VIBRANCY AND POTENTIAL OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITY.
RECYCLE PROGRAM LAREDO MAIN STREET COLLABORATED WITH TWO LOCAL SCHOOLS, THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT, AND A LOCAL BICYCLE COMPANY TO DEVELOP A STEM PROGRAM FOCUSED ON BICYCLE REPAIR. FOLLOWING A STRUCTURED CURRICULUM, STUDENTS LEARNED THE FIVE BASIC RULES OF BIKE MAINTENANCE. UPON MASTERING THESE SKILLS, THE STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN THE EL CENTRO DE LAREDO FARMERS MARKET, WHERE THEY OFFERED FREE BICYCLE REPAIRS TO THE COMMUNITY, COMBINING EDUCATION WITH PRACTICAL SERVICE AND PROMOTING SUSTAINABILITY.
