THE FOCUS OF THE ORGANIZATION IS TO INSTILL IN COLORADO YOUTH A POSITIVE SELF IMAGE, COMMITMENT TO AND APPRECIATION OF MUSIC, OVER 750 STUDENTS SERVED.

ORCHESTRAS, WIND AND STRING ENSEMBLES: PHILHARMONIA: THIS ORCHESTRA CONSISTS OF STUDENTS AT THE BEGINNING AND INTERMEDIATE LEVEL AND FOCUSES ON MUSIC EDUCATION AS WELL AS BASIC AND INTERMEDIATE TECHNIQUES. THE PHILHARMONIA INCLUDES STRING AND WIND INSTRUMENTS. SYMPHONY: THIS IS A FULL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA COMPRISED OF CYSO'S MOST ADVANCED STUDENTS. WIND ENSEMBLE: WINDS AND BRASS FROM BOTH THE PHILHARMONIA AND THE SYMPHONY COMBINE EACH WEEK FOR A ONE HOUR REHEARSAL. FUNDAMENTALS OF WIND AND BRASS PLAYING ARE EMPHASIZED. SPECTRUM ENSEMBLE: THIS SMALL ENSEMBLE, COMPRISED OF SOME OF THE SYMPHONY'S MOST ADVANCED STRING PLAYERS PROVIDES THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN A LARGE RANGE OF ADDITIONAL REPERTOIRE. REHEARSALS TAKE PLACE APPROXIMATELY ONCE A WEEK.


OUTREACH PROGRAM NO COST TO SCHOOLS: WITH THE SHORTAGE OF PUBLIC SCHOOL MUSIC PROGRAMS, CYSO OUTREACH GIVES MANY CHILDREN THEIR FIRST EXPERIENCE PLAYING AN INSTRUMENT, AND TEACHES DISCIPLINE, CREATIVITY, TEAMWORK, RESPECT FOR ACHIEVEMENT, AND AN APPRECIATION OF EXCELLENCE. WE CURRENTLY HAVE 11 OUTREACH PROGRAMS IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT THE DENVER METRO AREA. WE PROVIDE ALL THE INSTRUMENTS, BOOKS, REPAIRS, AND EXCELLENT TEACHING STAFF AT NO COST TO THE STUDENT OR SCHOOL. WE HAVE APPROXIMATELY 650 KIDS IN OUR OUTREACH PROGRAM.


CHAMBER MUSIC CAMP PROGRAM: THIS ONE-WEEK DAY CAMP IS OPEN TO BEGINNING TO ADVANCED STRING AND WIND STUDENTS AGES 7 TO 19. THE STUDENTS REHEARSE AND PERFORM IN SMALL ENSEMBLES INCLUDING STRING GROUPS, WOODWIND QUINTETS, FLUTE CHOIR, CLARINET CHOIR AND BRASS GROUPS. PROFESSIONAL COACHING FOR EACH ENSEMBLE IS PROVIDED BY COLORADO SYMPHONY MEMBERS AND MUSIC FACULTY FROM COLORADO UNIVERSITIES. THE WEEK CULMINATES IN A FINAL RECITAL PERFORMED BY THE STUDENTS.
